Full Stack Engineer

Location: Remote (with UK right to work)

Duration: 2 months contract (ASAP start)

Rate: £120 – £150 per day

About the Company:

Our client was established in 2003. The company aims to harness the drivers of future growth within concentrated, equally weighted portfolios to secure long-term performance for its investors. Independent and employee-owned, this business has combined disciplined, active investment management with the expertise of its team since 2003, serving clients across the world.

We are building an internal research platform to modernise how our investment team works, moving away from fragmented Excel and email workflows to a unified, intelligent system.

The Opportunity

This is a hands-on contract role working on a live MVP that is already in use. You’ll help take it to the next level by improving usability, performance, and core functionality.

You’ll be building tools that analysts actually use daily, including:

  • Research and document capture workflows
  • Earnings tracking and portfolio views
  • AI-assisted analyst notes
  • Quant screening tools

This is a high-impact role with direct exposure to end users (investment professionals), not just building in isolation.

What You’ll Do

  • Extend and refine an existing Next.js application (App Router)
  • Build clean, performant UI with React and Tailwind
  • Design and implement backend logic using TypeScript
  • Work with structured and analytical datasets (SQLite, DuckDB)
  • Integrate AI features using the Anthropic SDK
  • Collaborate directly with stakeholders to iterate quickly
  • Improve system reliability, performance, and developer ergonomics

Tech Stack

  • Frontend: Next.js 15 (App Router), React 19, TypeScript (strict), Tailwind v4
  • UI & Data Viz: Tiptap, Recharts / Lightweight Charts
  • Data Layer: SQLite (better-sqlite3), DuckDB (read-only)
  • Auth & Infra: NextAuth v5, Microsoft Entra ID (SSO), Docker Compose, Azure VM
  • AI: Anthropic SDK
  • Design: Custom design system (no component libraries)

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong full stack experience with Next.js + TypeScript
  • Comfortable working across frontend and backend without heavy abstraction
  • Experience building data-heavy or analytical applications
  • Ability to work quickly in a lean, iterative environment
  • Pragmatic mindset, able to balance speed with quality
  • Experience with AI integrations is a bonus, not required

Nice to Have

  • Experience in fintech, investing, or research tools
  • Familiarity with DuckDB or similar analytical databases
  • Experience working with internal tools or platforms (not just customer-facing apps)

Why This Role

  • Immediate impact on a real product used by investors
  • High ownership with minimal bureaucracy
  • Interesting mix of data, UI, and AI
  • Clear, time-bound engagement with focused outcomes
