Overview:

Our client, a global well known Trading Business are seeking an experienced Director of Backend Development to lead the Data Integration cluster team. This is a less hands-on, strategic leadership role suited to someone who thrives on people management, technical oversight, and delivery across complex backend/data systems. You'll work across business units to ensure seamless integration, performance, and scalability.

Role & Responsibilities:

• Lead and scale backend engineering teams focused on data integration and services.
• Align technical output with business goals, product roadmaps, and delivery timelines.
• Collaborate with architecture, platform, and data teams to ensure technical cohesion.
• Oversee team performance, hiring, development, and delivery.
• Report on backend delivery, project status, and risks to leadership.
• Foster best practices across system design, testing, observability, and resilience.

Essential Skills & Requirements:

• 10+ years in backend or infrastructure engineering, with 5+ years in leadership roles.
• Experience managing multiple teams within high-growth tech or financial organisations.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, data pipelines, and APIs.
• Familiarity with Python/Go, CI/CD, and cloud-native environments.
• Strategic mindset with strong leadership, communication, and mentoring skills.
• Experience in regulated industries (finance, insurance, fintech) is a plus.

Salary / Package:

• £130,000 - £160,000 Basic Salary
• 20% Bonus
