This is a strategic leadership role within a large Enterprise Engineering function responsible for enabling a developer community of circa 3000 engineers .

The core mandate is to reduce complexity, remove friction, and help engineering teams focus on delivering business value through secure, scalable and easy-to-consume platforms. Ideal candidates will understand what a cloud hosting and developer platform leadership role looks like , combining platform strategy, engineering leadership, developer experience, cloud-native delivery, governance, resilience and external industry perspective.
You will lead senior technical teams, challenge engineering direction, influence enterprise-wide platform adoption and bring modern cloud-native thinking into the organisation.

This is not a pure developer relations role, but the ability to bring an external industry perspective is important.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the Cloud Hosting Group across AWS, Azure and Kubernetes platform teams.
- Own the strategy, roadmap and operating model for enterprise cloud hosting platforms.
- Treat cloud hosting as an internal platform product consumed by engineering teams.
- Reduce developer friction across a large enterprise engineering community.
- Improve developer experience through self-service, standardised patterns, reusable tooling and clear platform journeys.
- Drive adoption of modern platform engineering practices across cloud and container hosting.
- Ensure AWS, Azure and Kubernetes platforms are secure, resilient, scalable, cost-effective and easy to consume.
- Work closely with Developer Experience, AI enablement, Data Engineering, Architecture, Security, Risk and Engineering leadership teams.
- Challenge platform teams constructively on technical direction, emerging trends and future-state architecture.
- Embed governance, auditability, security and resilience into cloud hosting services by design.
- Promote Infrastructure as Code, GitOps, CI/CD automation and policy-led engineering practices.
- Own platform quality, service reliability, operational resilience and continuous improvement.
- Support cloud cost governance, FinOps maturity and vendor/commercial discipline across cloud platforms.
- Act as a senior leadership voice for cloud-native engineering across the organisation.
- Bring external industry perspective into the business through market awareness, open-source engagement, technical communities or thought leadership.
