Data Science Manager — Corporate Data & Digital Transformation (Confidential)

A leading UK engineering & services group, multi-site with nationwide offices and 1,000+ colleagues , is investing heavily in digital transformation. We’re moving beyond legacy Excel/Power BI reporting to a modern, scalable data capability.

The opportunity

We’re hiring a Data Science Manager to own the corporate (non-operations) data agenda — setting the strategy, building the platform, creating governance, and growing a team. You’ll work closely with the senior leadership team and have direct reports from day one, with further hires planned (Data Scientist, Data Analyst, Data Controllers).

What you’ll lead

• Define and deliver the corporate data strategy (architecture, governance, data quality, MDM, metadata & lineage).
• Modernise the stack beyond Excel/Power BI into a robust analytics platform (e.g., cloud data lake/warehouse, ELT/ETL, semantic models, self-serve BI).
• Establish data governance and trusted KPI frameworks across Finance, People, Commercial, HSEQ, Procurement and IT.
• Build and manage a high-performing data team; coach and develop capability.
• Partner with SLT to prioritise use cases and land change effectively.

What you’ll bring

• Track record owning data strategy and platforms in a complex, multi-site organisation.
• Hands-on experience across ingestion, modelling (e.g., dimensional/lakehouse), and BI (Power BI a plus).
• Proven data governance delivery (roles, policies, quality controls, cataloguing/lineage).
• People leadership: hiring, mentoring and performance management.
• Strong stakeholder skills with exec and non-technical leaders.
