Data Engineer
Job Title: Data Engineer
Location: London, UK (2-3 days)
Job Type: Contract (Inside IR35)
Role Overview
We are looking for experienced Foundry Application & Data Engineers to support the run, maintenance and enhancement of operational applications on Palantir Foundry.
The role involves a combination of application support, incident resolution, data ingestion, data processing, ontology development, writeback implementation, restricted views, and Foundry application development using TypeScript, React and OSDK.
This is a hybrid role suited to someone who can work across both data engineering and application enablement within Palantir Foundry. The candidate does not need to be a pure front-end developer, but should be comfortable supporting and enhancing ontology-backed applications where the application logic is closely linked to data products, workflows and governed data access.
Key Responsibilities
Foundry Application Development
- Develop, enhance, run and maintain operational applications in Palantir Foundry.
- Build and support application components using TypeScript, React and OSDK.
- Configure and consume ontology objects, actions and functions within Foundry applications.
- Support operational workflows involving users, governed data access and writeback.
- Troubleshoot application issues, user-reported defects and operational incidents.
- Work with product owners, service teams and users to understand application behaviour and support needs.
- Ensure applications are maintainable, supportable and aligned with Foundry delivery standards.
Ontology and Writeback
- Build and maintain Foundry ontology objects, object types, links, actions and functions.
- Configure ontology-backed workflows to support operational use cases.
- Implement and support writeback patterns where users need to update, enrich or correct operational data.
- Ensure writeback logic is governed, auditable and aligned with access controls.
- Support restricted views and controlled data access patterns.
Data Engineering and Processing
- Build, maintain and support data ingestion and transformation pipelines in Foundry.
- Develop data processing logic using Python, PySpark and Foundry Code Repositories.
- Support ingestion from upstream sources and provisioning of curated datasets for downstream use.
- Investigate data issues related to quality, completeness, latency, schema changes and failed jobs.
- Maintain data lineage, transformation logic and operational documentation.
- Support deployment and release of data engineering changes through Foundry development workflows.
Incident Resolution and Live Service Support
- Provide advanced support for operational applications and data products.
- Investigate and resolve incidents across application, ontology, data pipeline and access layers.
- Perform root cause analysis and recommend permanent fixes.
- Support service continuity for business-critical applications.
- Work with service management teams to triage, prioritise and resolve issues.
- Maintain support runbooks, known error logs and operational knowledge articles.
- Support controlled data provisioning requests.
Workshops and Stakeholder Engagement
- Participate in workshops with business, product, data and service teams.
- Translate business requirements into Foundry data products, ontology design and application features.
- Support discovery, solution design, impact assessment and delivery planning.
- Explain technical options clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
Required Skills and Experience
- Strong hands-on experience with Palantir Foundry.
- Experience developing and supporting Foundry operational applications.
- Good understanding of Foundry Ontology, including objects, links, actions and writeback.
- Experience with Foundry Code Repositories.
- Strong Python development skills.
- Strong PySpark data engineering experience.
- Experience with data ingestion, transformation and data processing pipelines.
- Working knowledge of TypeScript, React and OSDK.
- Understanding of governed data access, restricted views and role-based access patterns.
- Ability to troubleshoot production data and application issues.
- Experience working in incident resolution or live service support environments.
- Ability to work with business users, product owners, service architects and data teams.
- Good documentation skills, including runbooks, support notes and technical design documentation.
Desirable Skills
- Experience in healthcare, public sector or regulated data environments.
- Experience with Foundry Workshop applications.
- Experience with data provisioning services.
- Experience with access control, data governance and information governance processes.
- Experience with CI/CD or structured release processes in Foundry.
- Experience with production support, service transition and operational readiness.
- Familiarity with incident, problem and change management processes.
- Experience working with sensitive or restricted data in a governed platform environment.
Expected Deliverables
The role will contribute to:
- Operational Foundry applications maintained and enhanced.
- Incidents triaged, investigated and resolved.
- Data ingestion and processing pipelines maintained.
- Ontology objects, actions and writeback patterns implemented or supported.
- Restricted views and governed access patterns maintained.
- Data provisioning requests fulfilled.
- Support runbooks and technical documentation updated.
- Root cause analysis and service improvement actions completed.
- Workshops supported with technical input and solution options.
