The Role

We are looking for an experienced, driven, and hands-on data engineer with strong data modelling experience, to join our growing consultancy and lead the delivery of a key migration project.

You will play a key role in the migration and redevelopment of an existing Data Warehouse into a modern AWS-based environment. This position focuses on analysing current ETL processes, understanding existing data structures, and re-engineering them in line with dimensional and analytical modelling best practices.

There will be a strong emphasis on data modelling, transformation logic, and data quality.

Key to this role will be the ability to take ownership of highly technical data challenges, with an unrivalled attention to detail. You will thrive on complex data challenges, working both independently and through collaboration with team members to find elegant and efficient solutions.

Key outputs for the role

· Analyse existing data warehouse structures, ETL logic, and reporting datasets to understand current data flows and business rules.

· Design and document dimensional, analytical, and reporting data models aligned to business requirements and best-practice modelling standards.

· Design clear mapping specifications from source systems to target dimensional models.

· Perform testing, reconciliation, and validation of new models and pipelines to ensure data correctness and completeness.

· Collaborate with Data Engineers, BI Developers, and business stakeholders to ensure models support analytical, reporting, and operational needs.

· Support the wider project team with documentation, data lineage, definitions, and modelling artefacts.

· Contribute to improving modelling standards, governance, and data quality across the project.

Required Skills and Experience

Essential

· Strong understanding of data modelling principles (e.g., Kimball, dimensional modelling, analytical modelling).

· Proven experience delivering or contributing to a data warehouse build or migration project.

· Hands-on experience designing analytical and reporting data models.

· ETL/ELT development experience, including analysis of existing transformation logic.

· Strong SQL skills, comfortable writing complex queries for transformation, validation, and reconciliation.

· Experience validating data pipelines and performing reconciliation testing between legacy and new environments.

· Ability to translate business requirements into robust data model designs.

· Strong documentation skills, including producing data dictionaries, mappings, and model diagrams.

· Experience working in an Agile methodologies (Scrum / Kanban).

Desirable

· Experience with dbt for transformation modelling.

· Experience working within the Telecoms sector.

· Experience with AWS data platform services.

· Familiarity with BI/reporting tools and how data models support downstream consumption.

· Knowledge of data governance, metadata management, and data lineage practices.
