Collateral Analyst
Our client a growing hedge fund is looking to add a Margin & Collateral Specialist to its London team. This is a broad role sitting across collateral management, margin analytics and treasury, with exposure to a complex, cross-asset investment portfolio.
The successful candidate will combine a strong understanding of the day-to-day margin and collateral lifecycle with the ability to analyse margin requirements, understand their underlying drivers and identify opportunities to improve collateral and funding efficiency.
This would suit someone with experience within a hedge fund, investment bank or similarly sophisticated trading environment who wants to move beyond purely operational collateral management into a more analytical and optimisation-focused position.
Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee margin and collateral requirements across Prime Brokers, clearing brokers and bilateral counterparties.
- Analyse Initial Margin and Variation Margin requirements across OTC, cleared and exchange-traded derivatives.
- Develop and enhance margin forecasting and liquidity-planning capabilities, helping the business anticipate future collateral requirements.
- Analyse the key portfolio and risk drivers behind margin requirements and investigate material changes or discrepancies.
- Work closely with Treasury, Operations, Risk, Trading and Technology to improve margin and collateral processes and analytics.
- Support daily collateral processes where required, including margin calls, reconciliations, disputes and collateral movements.
- Help develop and automate internal margin, collateral and reporting tools and reduce manual processes.
- Contribute to broader Treasury and financing initiatives, including counterparty and portfolio optimisation.
Experience & Skills
- Approximately 3–7 years' relevant experience within a hedge fund, investment bank, asset manager or financial markets technology/analytics environment.
- Strong understanding of margin and collateral management across derivatives.
- Experience with Initial Margin and Variation Margin, ideally across a combination of Prime Brokerage, OTC, cleared and exchange-traded products.
- Understanding of margin methodologies and the key risk factors that drive margin requirements.
- Exposure to margin forecasting, margin analytics, collateral optimisation or stress testing would be highly advantageous.
- Knowledge of SIMM/UMR and/or CCP and Prime Broker margin methodologies would be beneficial.
- Good understanding of the operational collateral lifecycle, including margin calls, reconciliations and dispute management.
- Cross-asset product knowledge across Rates, FX, Equities, Credit and/or Commodities is desirable.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an interest in understanding the underlying drivers of margin and collateral requirements.
- Python, SQL or other data/automation experience would be advantageous but does not need to be at quantitative developer level.
- Comfortable working closely with investment, Treasury, Risk, Operations and Technology teams in a fast-paced trading environment.
