Cyber Security Engineer

We’re looking for a Cyber Security Engineer for a local authority based in London on an initial 6-month contract, paying up to £500 per day (Inside IR35).

This role allows hybrid working.

The successful Senior Cyber Security Engineer will play a key role in enhancing and optimising a mature cyber security capability, working closely with an outsourced Security Operations Centre. This is a hands-on technical role focused on security monitoring, incident response, threat detection and platform optimisation, with particular emphasis on CrowdStrike and Splunk technologies. You will also support capability development within the wider security team through mentoring and knowledge sharing.

You will need proven experience working with the following:

• Cyber Security Engineering or SOC Engineering within complex environments
• CrowdStrike Falcon, including endpoint protection, detection and response
• Splunk Enterprise Security, dashboard development and alert optimisation
• Incident response, threat hunting and security monitoring
• Writing and optimising Splunk SPL queries
• Security Operations, SIEM and EDR technologies
• Security automation and SOAR workflows
• Cloud security across AWS and/or Azure
• Vulnerability management and security assessments
• Security standards, policies and best practice

Exposure to penetration testing, web application security testing or vulnerability assessment tools would be beneficial.

Relevant certifications such as CISSP, GCIH, CCSP, CrowdStrike certifications or Splunk Cybersecurity Defence Engineer would be highly desirable.
