MES Application Support Engineer - up to £80K - Chester

A globally recognised organisation is seeking an experienced MES Application Support Engineer to join a technology team supporting critical manufacturing and production systems.This role offers the opportunity to work across Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), industrial automation technologies, SCADA platforms and shop floor applications, helping to ensure operational continuity across a complex manufacturing environment.You will provide technical support, troubleshoot production-critical issues, collaborate with suppliers and business stakeholders, and contribute to the continuous improvement of manufacturing technology platforms.Responsibilities for the MES Application Support Engineer:

  • Provide technical support for Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and related production applications
  • Support industrial automation environments including SCADA systems, HMIs and robotics platforms
  • Investigate and resolve complex technical incidents, performing root cause analysis and identifying long term solutions
  • Work closely with suppliers, OEMs and internal stakeholders to coordinate issue resolution
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation and knowledge articles
  • Monitor service performance and provide regular updates to stakeholders
  • Support incident, problem and change management activities using ServiceNow
  • Contribute to continuous service improvement initiatives across manufacturing technology platforms
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to promote knowledge sharing and operational excellence

Essential Skills for the MES Application Support Engineer:

  • Experience supporting Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) or similar production systems
  • Understanding of industrial communication protocols including Ethernet/IP, Modbus and Profibus
  • Knowledge of SCADA platforms such as Wonderware or similar technologies
  • Experience with programming technologies including C#, .NET or Java
  • Understanding of ISA-95 principles and manufacturing operations
  • Experience troubleshooting complex application and system issues
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience working within IT service management processes

Desirable Skills for the MES Application Support Engineer:

  • Manufacturing, aerospace or industrial sector experience
  • Knowledge of production line technologies and shop floor systems
  • Experience supporting barcode scanners, printers, smart devices and manufacturing endpoints
  • ServiceNow experience
  • Knowledge of ITIL processes and best practices
