Senior GCP Apigee Engineer Salary: up to £90,000 + Bonus + Benefits Location: Hybrid - 2 days per week onsite (Bristol, Leeds, Halifax, Manchester or Edinburgh)Working Hours: 40 hours per week
A globally established organisation is seeking a Senior GCP Apigee Engineer to join a Public Cloud Platform function, delivering secure, scalable and compliant API solutions across enterprise environments. This is a senior, hands-on engineering role focused on modernising API gateways, automating deployments and enabling cloud-native integration across Google Cloud.
The Senior GCP Apigee Engineer role is suited to an experienced Apigee specialist who combines deep API management expertise with strong DevOps capability, enjoys working within cross-disciplinary feature teams and can contribute to scalable cloud product delivery.
Responsibilities for the Senior GCP Apigee Engineer:
- Design, build and manage API proxies, policies and configurations within Google Apigee
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines supporting full API lifecycle management
- Implement and enforce API security policies including OAuth, JWT, mTLS, rate limiting and threat protection
- Automate Apigee deployments and configurations using Infrastructure as Code principles
- Integrate Apigee with Google Cloud services including Cloud Functions, Pub/Sub and BigQuery
- Develop automation scripts and operational workflows using Python
- Manage API analytics, monitoring and logging to ensure performance and compliance
- Enforce governance standards and organisation policies across API ecosystems
- Collaborate with DevOps teams to deploy containerised components within GKE environments
- Optimise API performance using caching, quota management and intelligent traffic routing
- Support migration of legacy APIs into modernised Apigee frameworks
- Standardise reusable templates and patterns for enterprise API development
Essential Skills for the Senior GCP Apigee Engineer:
- Strong hands-on experience with Google Apigee API Management
- Proven experience implementing CI/CD pipelines for API deployments
- Strong Python scripting capability for automation
- Experience with Jenkins, GitHub Actions or similar pipeline tooling
- Knowledge of container orchestration within Google Kubernetes Engine
- Understanding of API security standards and policy-as-code frameworks
- Experience working within enterprise cloud environments
- GCP certification, ideally Apigee Certified API Engineer
Desirable Skills for the Senior GCP Apigee Engineer:
- Experience with Terraform or Terraform Cloud for Infrastructure as Code
- Familiarity with API development platforms
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Experience operating as a senior SME within cloud engineering teams
