Location: Base location either St Mary's Hospital, Parkhurst Road, Newport, Isle of Wight, PO30 5TG, or Building 4000, Lakeside, North Harbour, Cosham, Portsmouth, PO6 3EN. Across site travel may be required, the frequency will be agreed locally

The Automation Analyst will support the delivery of intelligent automation and digital process improvement across both Trusts.

You will work with service leads, operational teams, automation developers, and wider digital colleagues to help identify, assess, and document automation opportunities. You will support process discovery, requirements gathering, process mapping, testing, benefits tracking, and the ongoing monitoring of automated solutions.

Working as part of a collaborative team, you will contribute to automation projects of varying complexity, helping to ensure that solutions are clearly understood, well documented, appropriately tested, and aligned to organisational and governance standards.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the identification and assessment of automation and digital process improvement opportunities across both Trusts.
  • Work with service leads, operational teams, and stakeholders to understand current processes, challenges, risks, and expected outcomes.
  • Assist with the creation of process documentation, including process maps, requirements, process definition documents, test scenarios, and benefits information.
  • Collaborate with automation developers, senior developers, business analysts, and service leads to translate operational requirements into clear automation requirements.
  • Support user acceptance testing by preparing test scenarios, recording outcomes, and helping services understand expected automation behaviour.
  • Support the review of existing automations by analysing exceptions, identifying trends, and helping services resolve process-related issues.
  • Produce and maintain accurate documentation, project records, meeting notes, and process information in line with Trust standards.
  • Support users and colleagues in understanding and adopting automated solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with Information Governance, data protection, and cybersecurity requirements.
  • Contribute to process improvement, testing, and innovation activities within the automation team.
  • Participate in knowledge-sharing and skill-building across the wider digital team.

Specific Core Functions

  • Contribute to the smooth delivery of all RPA projects, enhancements and support delivered by the team.
  • Assist IT RPA Developers to define and specify functional and non-functional requirements, technical specifications and advice.
  • Assist with the delivery of complex technical RPA development projects.
  • Write and design the build of RPA with integrity and scalability with data access layers that are optimised for performance and security.
  • Deliver RPA which is well tested and consistently error free.
  • Develop efficient RPA automations which fit process requirements.
  • Undertake aspects of system maintenance and support as instructed, including end user support and training.
  • Assist with the investigation of functional problems with in-house and third-party applications and performance issues with applications, databases and servers.
  • Utilise, as appropriate, a number of different methodologies such as Scrum and SPRINT to supplement normal PRINCE project management processes.
  • Ensure written reports are created to appropriate standards and client communication is at an excellent and professional level.
  • Be aware of Information Governance requirements, including data protection and security threats and make sure risks are mitigated through the use of known industry standards.
  • Contribute to the effective and efficient handover of projects and systems to routine operational support, including the production of appropriate system and support documentation.
  • Contribute to the proactive drive of innovation with new ideas and options made available through new technologies.
  • Embrace the culture of promoting new ideas and identifying opportunities within the team for the organisation.
  • Assist with research and development activities, contributing to evaluation of new technologies and systems as required.

Qualifications

Essential
  • Degree level education/qualification or equivalent in ICT or related field.

  • An understanding of RPA and best practice delivery.

  • RPA design experience.
  • Experience of NHS practices and information.
