Controls & Commissioning Engineer - PLC / FAT / Commissioning

£40 per hour | Outside IR35 | Contract

Locations: Nottingham or Wymondham (Norwich)
Working Arrangement: Hybrid - minimum 3 days per week in the office
Travel: UK, Turkey & Vietnam as required

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Controls & Commissioning Engineer to support a major engineering organisation across a range of UK and international projects.

The role will focus on PLC/HMI software, FAT, Pre-FAT, iFAT, commissioning and controls troubleshooting, working closely with engineering, project, supplier and customer teams to ensure systems are fully tested and ready for project milestones.

Key Responsibilities

• PLC and HMI software testing, troubleshooting and verification
• FAT, Pre-FAT, iFAT, SAT and commissioning activities
• Cause & Effect testing and verification
• I/O checks, loop checks and functional testing
• Controlled software updates and configuration management
• Troubleshooting controls and instrumentation issues
• Supporting suppliers and customers during testing and commissioning
• Reviewing and updating electrical and control documentation
• Supporting punch list and software issue resolution

Essential Experience

• Strong hands-on PLC programming and troubleshooting experience
• Experience with Siemens TIA Portal and WinCC
• FAT and commissioning experience
• Experience with instrumentation and control systems
• Ability to interpret P&IDs, control schematics and Cause & Effect diagrams
• Experience working in safe area and/or ATEX environments
• Understanding of functional safety and SIL principles
• Strong technical documentation and problem-solving skills
• Willingness to travel internationally when required

• Siemens PCS7
• Rockwell Studio 5000 / FactoryTalk
• Experience within industrial, marine, oil & gas or packaged equipment environments
• Knowledge of IEC 61508 / IEC 61511 and LOPA
