Employment Type: 6-12 Month FTC - view to going perm

Overview

An established, multi-entity international business is seeking an experienced Payroll Transformation Manager to stabilise and modernise its payroll function. Operating across multiple European locations, the organisation is undergoing a period of change and requires a specialist to bring structure, clarity, and improved governance to a complex payroll environment.

This is a high-impact role suited to someone who thrives in ambiguous situations and can quickly diagnose issues, implement improvements, and lead transformation initiatives across systems, vendors, and processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and diagnose current payroll operations, identifying inefficiencies and risks
  • Lead the transformation of a fragmented payroll function with multiple stakeholders and outsourced providers
  • Improve governance, controls, and processes across payroll delivery
  • Manage and optimise relationships with multiple payroll vendors
  • Drive system and process improvements, particularly across payroll and HR technology ecosystems
  • Support ongoing projects focused on automation and system integration
  • Collaborate with finance, HR, and operational teams across international locations

Candidate Profile

  • Proven experience in payroll transformation or large-scale payroll projects
  • Strong background in outsourced payroll environments
  • Ability to operate strategically rather than as a hands-on processor
  • Demonstrated success improving processes, controls, and delivery models
  • Comfortable working in complex, fast-paced, and evolving environments
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills across multiple business areas
  • Experience working across multiple countries or entities is highly advantageous

What’s on Offer

  • Initial 6-12 month fixed-term contract with potential to convert into a permanent senior leadership role
  • Opportunity to shape and lead a critical business function
  • Exposure to global payroll operations, with potential international collaboration/travel
  • Flexible working environment (typically 1–3 days in office, with remote options considered)
  • Competitive salary with flexibility for the right profile

The Opportunity

This is a unique opportunity to take ownership of a payroll function in need of significant improvement and transformation. For the right individual, there is clear potential to step into a long-term senior leadership role and make a lasting impact on the organisation’s operational effectiveness.
