About the Role

We are looking for a skilled Data Engineer to join a dynamic IT team within a well-established, regulated organisation. This role offers the opportunity to work on critical data platforms, support financial reporting processes, and play a key part in a strategic transition to cloud-based technologies.

You will be responsible for maintaining and developing data solutions, supporting SQL Server environments, and contributing to the design of modern, scalable data architecture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support critical data processing between core systems and the Enterprise Data Warehouse, ensuring accurate and timely reporting
  • Manage and monitor ETL pipelines, identifying and resolving data issues and performance bottlenecks
  • Act as a technical point of contact during financial close periods (monthly, quarterly, year-end)
  • Perform root cause analysis on data issues and implement effective solutions
  • Collaborate with IT and business teams to resolve data challenges and improve processes
  • Identify opportunities to automate and optimise manual workflows
  • Contribute to the design of a cloud-based “Single Source of Truth” data platform
  • Design, develop and maintain ETL workflows using modern tools (e.g. Azure Data Factory, Databricks)
  • Optimise database performance through query tuning, indexing and partitioning strategies
  • Support CI/CD practices using Azure DevOps
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation
  • Provide ad-hoc data extraction, reporting, and general IT support as required

Technical Skills & Experience

  • Strong experience with SQL Server, including T-SQL, stored procedures, and performance tuning
  • Solid understanding of ETL processes and tools (SSIS, Azure Data Factory)
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure (Synapse, Databricks, Fabric) or Snowflake
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps and source control best practices
  • Experience working with Visual Studio (VS2022+)
  • Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and architectures

Desirable:

  • Experience supporting financial systems (e.g. accounting or policy systems)
  • Azure DBA experience
  • Knowledge of Azure Analysis Services or SSAS
  • Experience with C#, ASP.NET MVC, or web application development
  • Familiarity with AI tools such as GitHub Copilot
  • Exposure to VBA or SharePoint Online
