Infrastructure Engineer - 9-Month FTC

Infrastructure Engineer - 9-Month Fixed Term Contract | London

We are seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to join our Insurance Client, based in Central London on a 9-month fixed-term contract. This role is ideal for an individual contributor with deep expertise in workplace services, communication, and collaboration systems. You will work closely with Managed Service Providers (MSPs) to ensure secure, efficient, and reliable workplace solutions, including desktop environments, collaboration technologies, and remote working enablement.

You will act as a trusted advisor and point of contact for workplace solutions, helping define business goals, set clear expectations, and measure MSP performance to drive continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert consultancy on workplace services, including Microsoft technologies and implementations, advising internal stakeholders on governance and stability while supporting evolving business requirements.
  • Serve as a liaison between MSPs and internal teams to ensure business objectives are met, outcomes are clearly defined, and SLAs and performance metrics are tracked effectively.
  • Monitor and evaluate MSP performance, co-develop capabilities, and implement improvements to reduce costs, enhance processes, and innovate services.
  • Participate in troubleshooting and resolving performance or contractual issues, collaborating cross-functionally with internal teams and vendors.
  • Contribute to the creation and enforcement of workplace service standards and controls.
  • Stay current with technology trends and best practices, recommending enhancements to workplace services.
  • Maintain professional development through workshops, publications, networking, and industry groups.

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience managing IT services, operations, or projects delivered through MSPs, focusing on outcomes rather than hands-on execution.
  • Strong experience defining, tracking, and utilizing SLAs, service metrics, and performance indicators to manage vendor relationships.
  • Solid knowledge of workplace technologies, including Windows 11, Office 365, Teams, Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive, and ideally Microsoft Enterprise Mobility + Security (EM+S).
  • Experience with project management methodologies (Waterfall, Agile) and ability to plan and deliver complex initiatives.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with internal teams, external vendors, and offshore resources.
  • Experience developing technical and operational solutions, including requirements gathering, use-case scenarios, and high-level architecture.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strategic thinker with business insight across products and industries.
  • Ability to mentor and guide other infrastructure or vendor management teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or relevant experience.
  • Typically 7+ years of experience in IT infrastructure engineering, workplace services, or Microsoft technology consulting, preferably in a financial or regulated environment.
  • Experience in customer-facing technology roles and managing IT vendors or MSPs.
  • Relevant certifications in infrastructure, vendor management, or workplace technologies are a plus.
