Director of Engineering (AI/ML Focus)

Job Description:

This is a rare one. Join as the operational co-lead of engineering at a red-hot AI company tackling gnarly problems in cybersecurity. You’ll be the engine behind the engine – scaling a high-performing team, partnering with the CTO daily, and owning delivery across 4+ squads. If you’ve got AI/ML creds, scaling scars, and a customer-obsessed mindset, this could be your legacy role.

Location:

Remote (UK or Europe preferred)

Responsibilities:

• Co-lead engineering with the CTO: joint decision-making and shared outcomes
• Own day-to-day engineering ops, from priorities to performance reviews
• Scale the team from 10 to 25+ while keeping culture and standards intact
• Drive customer-first delivery, measuring success by impact not timelines

Ideal Candidate:

• 5+ yrs leading AI/ML or Data infra teams through hypergrowth
• Strong technical backbone – credible in the code and architecture rooms
• Obsessed with customer impact over engineering rituals
• A true partner, not a report – loves shared ownership and fast feedback loops

Compensation:

Up to £180k + significant equity in a high-growth AI startup
