Information Governance Officer

£17.80 per hour | Bournemouth | Hybrid working

We are recruiting an Information Governance Officer on behalf of our client in Bournemouth. This is a varied and responsible role supporting the organisation to respond lawfully and securely to information requests within statutory timescales.

You will collate information from several systems, review and redact potentially large volumes of documentation, respond to requestors and provide guidance to colleagues across the organisation.

The role

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Collating information in response to Freedom of Information requests, Environmental Information requests and Subject Access Requests
  • Ensuring requests are processed lawfully, securely and within statutory timescales
  • Identifying, locating and downloading information from multiple systems
  • Combining information into an accessible format for the requestor
  • Reviewing and redacting large volumes of documentation in accordance with data protection legislation
  • Maintaining clear and accurate records and audit trails
  • Supporting the development and maintenance of the Information Governance accountability framework
  • Investigating data breaches, sharing lessons learned and supporting improvements
  • Reporting and liaising with the Information Commissioner’s Office regarding high-risk, reportable breaches within the required timescale
  • Providing advice and guidance to colleagues about information access and the lawful release of personal information
  • Maintaining secure electronic and manual filing systems
  • Supporting project reporting, presentations and administrative processes
  • Providing training and guidance to colleagues across the organisation
  • Deputising for the Team Manager or Team Leader when required
  • Providing wider administrative or reception support when needed

Using IT systems

You will use a range of systems and software to:

  • Interrogate databases and retrieve relevant information
  • Combine multiple records into a single document
  • Review and redact records using platforms such as Foxit or Adobe
  • Send confidential information securely
  • Respond to service users, colleagues and external stakeholders
  • Create basic Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations
  • Complete accurate data entry across spreadsheets and databases

  • The ability to read, review and redact potentially thousands of pages of information
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise competing deadlines
  • Confidence working independently and using your own initiative

  • High levels of discretion and confidentiality
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Confidence communicating by email, telephone and video call
  • The ability to assess the importance and urgency of incoming requests
  • A collaborative approach and willingness to share best practice
  • Confidence learning and using different computer systems

Previous experience within Information Governance and knowledge of information rights legislation would be advantageous. Experience of processing special-category data or delivering training would also be desirable.

This role would suit someone who takes pride in producing accurate work, can remain focused when reviewing detailed information and understands the importance of handling personal and sensitive data with care.
