Assistant Director of Health Intelligence
Job summary
We are seeking an exceptional senior leader to head our Health Intelligence function and play a pivotal role in shaping data-driven decision-making across our Group (UHN and UHL). As Assistant Director of Health Intelligence, you will lead talented multi-disciplinary teams to deliver high-quality analytics, intelligence and insight that underpin operational performance, strategic planning and clinical excellence.
You will provide visible, inspiring leadership across our digital and data services, ensuring timely, accurate and meaningful information supports the organisation at every level. With significant experience in complex BI environments, advanced analytical expertise and a passion for innovation, you will champion modern, agile approaches and drive the development of a world-class intelligence function.
Working closely with senior clinical, operational and digital leaders, you will influence strategy, build strong partnerships across the ICS, represent UHN and UHL regionally and nationally, and lead major programmes that transform how data is used to improve outcomes.

Main duties of the job
In this senior leadership role, you will:
- Lead the Health Intelligence function across the Group, ensuring the delivery of high-quality data, analysis and insight that supports operational and strategic decision-making.
- Provide visible, motivational leadership to multiple Health Intelligence teams, creating a high-performing, customer-focused service.
- Oversee statutory and regulatory data submissions, ensuring accuracy, data quality and timely delivery.
- Drive the development of world-class intelligence systems, championing innovation, automation and emerging technologies.
- Lead complex digital and data programmes, including the data platform, reporting tools and analytics development.
- Work closely with senior clinical, operational and digital leaders to interpret performance, identify trends, and provide actionable insight.
- Develop strong partnerships across the ICS, region and wider NHS, representing the Group at local, regional and national forums.
- Ensure robust governance, performance monitoring, risk management and service improvement across the Health Intelligence portfolio.
- Contribute to strategic planning, business case development and the continuous improvement of systems, processes and service models.
- Manage resources, budgets, staff development and team structures to meet organisational needs.
- Support cultural change, embed best practice, and ensure alignment to the Trust's values of Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Integrity and Courage.

Person Specification
Knowledge & Experience
- In depth specialist professional knowledge across several disciplines, insight and analysis, information development, data warehouse design, financial management, performance management, information systems, staff management acquired through training and experience over an extended period
- Advanced experience of managing cloud-based analytics development (e.g., Azure DB).
- Extensive experience delivering business intelligence and analytical functions in a large and complex NHS environment
- Extensive experience delivering business intelligence and analytical functions in a large and complex environment
- Track record in successfully delivering major operational service improvement initiatives demonstrated by quantifiable metrics
- Significant experience of managing complex digital or data programmes
- High-level awareness of Board-level working in a complex and changing organisation
- Experience building, leading, motivating, managing and developing high-performing teams
- Budgetary management experience
- Extensive experience line managing staff including developing and delivering appropriate role profiles and structures to meet operational needs
- Ability to influence at all levels and a highly strategic thinker
- Experience of working in health organisations
- Experience of working with key external improvement agencies

Education, Training & Qualifications
- Educated to Masters level education or equivalent level or equivalent experience of working at a senior level in leading business intelligence and analytical functions in a complex environment
- Detailed knowledge of the provision of health services
- Agile delivery qualification e.g. ScrumMaster, AgilePM.
