Data Analyst
The post-holder will provide data analysis and presentation design within the health informatics work of the CEG and lead on the production of dashboards and data reports to support locally commissioned services, The work currently involves remotely extracting and processing data from GP clinical systems such as EMIS web and utilising local databases including Discovery, processing the data into clear and dynamic dashboards that will enable the reduction of health inequality and improve clinical outcomes thorough our Learning Health System approach. The postholder will work as part of a CEG primary care services support team delivering this
The post-holder will also contribute to primary care development and research undertaken by CEG including training and supervision of CEG and related staff. What is done, to what / to whom and with what outcome.
Main duties and responsibilities
• Design and implement the interrogation, extraction and post processing of data, as required for CEG reporting. This will involve using both SQL and clinical system searches to extract data, Power Query, Python or equivalent to manipulate data and Power BI to present data.
• Design dashboards and reports for publication to CEG’s NHS commissioners, practices and networks. CEG currently use Power BI and excel to do this.
• Contribute to CEG’s data reporting programme, including building and curating datasets, writing SQL scripts and validating new reports against alternative data.
• Collaborate with CEG staff including facilitators, clinical leads, manager and other data team members as well as external service commissioners to ensure that dashboards and data reports are produced and disseminated to specification and in line with agreed deadlines.
• Organise and attend, as necessary, meetings with external data commissioners and relevant CEG staff to define and clarify data report requests, specifications and requirements.
• Assess data extraction queries and provide solutions for relevant data collection using knowledge and judgement. Liaise, as necessary, with technical support services to solve immediate data delivery issues. Maintain CEG data procedures, relevant records of work activity, validation procedures and data quality checks.
• Work with access to sensitive NHS patient data, demonstrating compliance and understand statutory legislation regarding data handling and information governance policies.
• Participate in the production and dissemination of other CEG publications and support materials.
• Contribute to the general development of CEG standard operating procedures and documentation. In particular, improving data validation and in developing methods of data collection and reporting methods within CEG. Take part in training courses as appropriate and participate in service development.
• Deliver feedback on work programmes to all members of the CEG, and members of the Centre for Primary Care and Public Health as required. Liaise regularly with the CEG facilitators, clinical leads, CEG Manager and other data staff to ensure effective running of systems including accuracy of reporting, capacity management and timeliness.Attend staff and other meetings as required and contribute generally to team decision making process.
Experience/Knowledge
Experience in analysis and processing of large data sets with interpretation and visualisation of output
Ability to construct, manipulate and query SQL databases
Experience in data presentation and visualisation software including Power BI
Experience in data manipulation and processing software including Excel , Power Query, Python
Knowledge of maintaining and curating databases, such as reference or library data sets
Experience of clinical systems search and reporting (e.g. EMIS, SystmOne)
Experience of working in a clinical or research environment
Knowledge of using small area level data and deprivation indicators
Knowledge of clinical coding systems (e.g. SNOMED, Read, ICD)
General knowledge of clinical terminology
Knowledge of primary care sector and NHS policy

Relevant degree or equivalent experience
