We're looking for a Senior Technology Design Engineer to join our Technology Design team based in Manchester/Newcastle/Birmingham or Basingstoke.Location: Manchester/Newcastle/Birmingham or Basingstoke with agile working opportunityHours: 40 hours per week - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us.Starting: from £42,000 per annumSector: Mechanical Electrical and Technology HighwaysWe are unable to offer certificates of sponsorship to any candidates in this role.We're looking for a Senior Technology Design Engineer to lead the delivery and assurance of highways technology solutions across major infrastructure programmes.You'll act as a technical authority, owning design outputs from concept through to implementation, driving right-first-time delivery, and ensuring solutions are compliant, integrated and future-ready. Working across multidisciplinary teams, you'll play a key role in delivering ITS, communications and smart infrastructure systems aligned to National Highways standards.Are youHNC/Degree-qualified in Electrical, Electronic, Communications or Technology Engineering or equivalent relevant field An experienced highways technology engineer with strong ITS expertise Confident leading design delivery and technical assurance activities Knowledgeable in National Highways standards (e.g. DMRB) and governance frameworks Comfortable acting as a technical authority across complex projects A strong leader who can mentor and develop engineers Do youLead technology design packages across ITS, communications and power systems Take ownership of design outputs from concept through to implementation Drive multidisciplinary integration across civil, electrical and systems teams Lead design assurance, reviews and compliance with governance frameworks Communicate technical risks and solutions clearly to clients and stakeholders What will you be responsible for As an Senior Technology Design Engineer, you'll be working within the Technology Design team, supporting them in delivering high-quality highways technology design solutions. Your day to day will include:Leading the delivery of complex technology design (ITS, communications, power) from concept through to implementationOwning design outputs, ensuring solutions are buildable, maintainable and right-first-timeActing as technical authority within design assurance, leading reviews, checks and gateway approvalsEnsuring compliance with DMRB, National Highways and industry standards, managing technical riskProviding SME leadership across ITS, communications networks and smart infrastructure systemsDriving multidisciplinary integration across civil, electrical, mechanical and systems teamsActing as a key technical interface for clients, leading workshops and stakeholder engagementSupporting programme delivery through reporting on progress, risk and performanceDriving continuous improvement, digital engineering and BIM adoptionLeading input into bids and developing innovative, compliant and competitive solutionsMentoring and developing engineers, building team capability and high-performance cultureWhat are we looking for This role of Technology Design Engineer is great for you if:Are Degree-qualified in Electrical, Electronic, Communications or Technology EngineeringHave significant experience in highways or infrastructure technology designHave proven experience leading design delivery and assurance activitiesHave strong knowledge of National Highways standards and governance frameworksWith technical expertise in:ITS infrastructure and systems integrationTelecommunications and IP networksPower and control systemsDesign assurance and approval processesMultidisciplinary coordination and systems integrationRewards and benefitsWe're proud to be able to offer our brilliant people a wide variety of benefits that you can tailor to your needs.
