Job summary

Research and Development (R&D) Data Assistant - Band 3

£31,554 - £33,270 Inclusive of HCAS + per annum

Fixed term: 2 years - Full time 37.5 hours per week

The post-holder will provide high quality data management support and will be responsible for using and maintaining the EDGE database as well as using Microsoft Excel to produce and manipulate reports generated in EDGE and EPIC. The maintenance of the quality and content of the data will be a key function of this post which will be achieved by regular error checking and accurately entering large amounts of data, ensuring that the data is stored in accordance with the Data Protection Act and relevant guidelines.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for modifying and validating the databases and to support any development work. Maintain databases and ensure their security and compliance with the data protection act.

Accurately and efficiently enter data on to current databases. This will require a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.

Regularly action reports to help in the cleaning of data therefore ensuring data is relevant and up-to-date.

To be the first point of contact for epic administrative enquiries.

Be responsible for actioning requests to set up new studies.

Manage access for new starters and leavers when not managed by individual research delivery Unit

Liaise with staff locally and nationally to create appropriate data collection methods and provide reports.

Identify and recommend changes to procedures within the service which will improve the quality of service to patients.

Job responsibilities

Information management

Run reports from the current databases to provide information as required by the R&D managers, Senior Facilitators and Research Data Officer; this will include regular reports and ad hoc reports.

Assist in the submission of external reports required by research regulators, including the quarterly Performance in Initiating & Delivery (PID) national submission.

To constantly review, streamline and update processes for recording data, in order to improve data quality within the service. To take part in decision making and influence departmental changes, and contribute to and participate in review of systems, policies and procedures.

EPIC Support

To be responsible for arranging access for research monitors, for areas where this responsibility is not devolved to the Research Delivery Units

To have systems in place for escalating queries to appropriate escalation points.

To undertake any other EPIC administrative duties.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential
  • Educated to a minimum of GCSE grade C or equivalent in Maths and English.
  • Previous experience working with databases including data entry, queries and reporting.
Desirable
  • Previous experience at working in a research/academic environment.

Skills

Essential
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Effective in managing own time & meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills.
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision and use own initiative.
  • Ability to be proactive & show initiative in proposing and carrying out new administrative procedures.
  • Ability to prioritise; to be organised and flexible.
Desirable
  • Interest in research.

Knowledge

Essential
  • Previous experience working with databases including data entry, queries and reporting
  • Proven IT skills including use of Microsoft Excel, Word, Access and Outlook.
Desirable
  • Previous experience of EDGE.
  • Working knowledge of Research Governance.
