IT Support Technician

About the role

We’re looking for a friendly, motivated and technically capable IT Support Technician to join our growing IT team. This is a great opportunity for someone with helpdesk or support experience who’s eager to get involved in systems administration, server management and cloud technologies.

You’ll be providing day-to-day technical support to our staff across 40+ care homes and central offices, helping resolve issues quickly and professionally. Alongside this, you’ll have opportunities to assist with server tasks, Active Directory, Office 365 administration and other infrastructure projects as part of your development.

This is a permanent role, ideal for someone who wants to build a long-term IT career in a busy but supportive environment.

Reports to: IT Manager

Key duties and responsibilities

End-User Support

  • Act as the first point of contact for IT issues via our helpdesk system.
  • Troubleshoot problems with Windows desktops, printers, network access, email and mobile devices.
  • Resolve or escalate issues in a timely manner to ensure minimal disruption.
  • Provide excellent customer service and keep users updated on progress.

Device Setup and Maintenance

  • Set up new laptops, desktops and mobile phones for staff.
  • Install software, apply updates, and configure devices according to company standards.
  • Maintain and update hardware asset records.

Office 365 and Active Directory Support

  • Assist with user account creation and password resets in Active Directory and Office 365.
  • Help manage shared mailboxes, distribution groups and file permissions.
  • Support basic administration in Microsoft Teams, OneDrive and SharePoint.

Exposure to Systems Administration Tasks (with training and supervision)

  • Support backup checks, patch management and server monitoring tasks.
  • Assist with setting up and maintaining virtual machines (Hyper-V).
  • Help apply updates and policies across devices and users.
  • Learn PowerShell scripting to automate repetitive tasks.

Site Visits and Remote Support

  • Provide on-site support at our care homes when issues can’t be resolved remotely.
  • Help with physical setup of IT equipment (e.g. printers, routers, cabling) as required.

Skills and attributes

  • 1+ year experience in an IT support/helpdesk role (or relevant IT qualification)
  • Solid knowledge of Windows 10/11 and Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity with Active Directory and basic Office 365 admin tasks
  • Strong troubleshooting and customer service skills
  • Full UK work authorisation
  • Willingness to travel to sites occasionally

Desirable:

  • Experience with Microsoft 365 admin centre, Teams, SharePoint or OneDrive
  • Exposure to Hyper-V, Group Policy or file server environments
  • Some scripting experience (PowerShell or Batch)

Driving licence (or plans to obtain one soon)
