Principal Hardware Systems Engineer
Kirintec are seeking a flexible, enthusiastic and experienced Principal Hardware Systems Engineer to join the R&D team at their premises in Ross-On-Wye developing the next generation of electronic warfare products.
The candidate must be able to take ownership of a system design from the concept phase through to manufacture and through life support.
The role will involve interaction with and technical oversight of both a multi-disciplinary internal engineering team and external partners.
The candidate must be capable of managing their own work whilst being a member of a small dynamic team. Reporting to the Product Development Director, you will work closely with our systems, software, RF, PCB layout and mechanical engineers to both specify and develop new products and to maintain existing products.
This is a hands-on design role in a small team which will also include the mentorship of less experienced engineers who may be brought into the team at a later stage.
You will be encouraged to contribute your ideas on process and quality improvement and will use the breadth of knowledge you've developed to help identify appropriate technologies to use in new products.
Key Responsibilities
Acting as the Technical Authority for the assigned project/product
Acting as the customer facing technical point of contact for the assigned project/product
Delivery of external design reviews to customers
Leading and influencing the development of engineering solutions including: analogue and digital electronics, RF, FPGA, embedded software, application software, user interface, and mechanical
Executing technical roadmaps agreed with the Product Development Director
Tasking allocated engineering staff on a day-to-day basis
Responsible to the Product Development Director for configuration control, product safety and obsolescence management of designated products
Undertaking/coordinating technical review for artefacts produced for the product/project
Ensuring the ongoing manufacturability of the product
Ensuring company processes are followed for the project/product and evidence is captured
Ensuring appropriate verification and qualification for the product/project are executed and evidence recorded
Contributing to the generation of technical proposals, bids and supporting internal review
Providing detailed technical support to other company departments as required
Providing detailed technical support and oversight to suppliers and partners
Reviewing and allocating issues in Jira
Ensuring production issues are resolved in a timely manner
Ensuring the manufacturing data packs are up-to-date and accurate
Ensuring production test solutions are appropriate, reliable and adequately documented
Reporting project/product status to the Product Development Director
Development of Statements of Work and tasking of subcontractors and suppliers
Essential Skills
Strong engineering background
Previous experience of owning the design, development, qualification and production of mechanical, electronic, or RF systems or products
Proven track record of leading dynamic multi-functional teams
Broad experience across different applications and technologies
Design of sophisticated system architectures
Ability to analyse solutions and make system design trade-offs
Strong desire to dive deep into system level issues and drive problems to closure in a team-based environment with a proactive attitude
Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
Familiarity with the challenges of taking a product from early architecture through to production
Experience with formal Systems Engineering from requirements capture through to verification and validation
Desirable Skills
Experience with Aras Innovator
Experience in Altium Designer
Experience using standard RF and electronic test equipment
Familiarity with software such as Python
Understanding of SysML
Experience as technical lead on large and complex bids
Employment terms:
Hours: 37.5 per week
Location: Ross-On-Wye (with some opportunity to work remotely)
Probation: 3 months

Salary range: £70k - £95k
