Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Field Technician to support nationwide data centre and on-site deployments, primarily focused on rack and stack activities using Cisco infrastructure. The role is heavily field-based, with regular travel across the UK, supported by remote documentation and reporting work completed from home on non-site days.

This is a hands-on delivery role, ideal for technicians who enjoy physical infrastructure work and structured deployment projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform rack and stack installations of network and server equipment, primarily Cisco hardware

  • Install, mount, and secure Switches, Routers, Firewalls, and related infrastructure

  • Patch and dress copper and fibre cabling to agreed standards

  • Label equipment and cabling accurately in line with client standards

  • Conduct basic power-up, connectivity checks, and visual inspections

  • De-install and remove Legacy equipment where required

  • Work to site health & safety, security, and change control procedures

  • Travel to client sites across the UK (typically 60-80% of working time)

  • Complete deployment documentation, asset records, and site reports while working remotely from home

  • Liaise with remote network engineers and project teams during installations

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in a field technician/rack & stack/data centre installation role

  • Strong hands-on experience with Cisco hardware (Switches, Routers, Firewalls)

  • Confident working in live data centre and enterprise environments

  • Solid understanding of structured cabling standards (copper & fibre)

  • Ability to follow technical runbooks and installation guides accurately

  • Comfortable with frequent UK travel and onsite work

  • Strong attention to detail for documentation and asset tracking

  • Full UK driving licence

Bonus/Desirable Skills

  • Exposure to Cisco Meraki environments (Switches, Firewalls, access points)

  • Experience working with Palo Alto Firewalls or appliances (physical install level)

  • Basic understanding of network concepts (VLANs, IP Addressing, connectivity testing)

  • Previous experience supporting large rollout or migration programmes

Working Pattern

  • Onsite: Field-based installation work across the UK

  • Remote: Home-based days used for documentation, reporting, and preparation

  • Occasional overnight stays may be required depending on site location
