Data Migration Specialist (Luton)

We are currently seeking an experienced M365 Data Migration Engineer to support a critical data migration programme for a leading defence client. The successful candidate will lead the migration of data from legacy network drives to OneDrive and SharePoint Online , supporting over 5,000 users.

This role requires a hands-on engineer with deep technical expertise in Microsoft 365 migrations and experience with enterprise-scale migration tooling, ideally Sharegate . Flexibility for out-of-hours work , including evenings and weekends, is essential due to the nature of the migration schedule.

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan, manage, and execute large-scale data migrations from on-premise network drives to OneDrive and SharePoint Online.
• Use migration tooling such as Sharegate to facilitate and monitor data migration.
• Collaborate with project managers, IT support teams, and end-users to ensure smooth transition and minimal disruption.
• Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance during migration in accordance with defence industry standards.
• Provide reporting and documentation of progress, issues, and resolutions.
• Support post-migration testing and user acceptance.

Essential Skills & Experience:

• Proven experience in Microsoft 365 data migrations , particularly OneDrive and SharePoint Online.
• Demonstrated success in migrating network drive data for 5,000+ users .
• Hands-on experience with migration tools such as Sharegate or similar platforms.
• Ability to work independently and solve complex migration challenges.
• Strong understanding of file permissions, data ownership, and SharePoint architecture.
• Willingness and flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable:

• Previous experience working in a defence or secure environment .
• Knowledge of compliance requirements within the public sector or MOD frameworks.
• Relevant Microsoft certifications (e.g., MS-100, MS-101, or equivalent).
