Live Event Technician Apprenticeship
Role
- Preparation of lighting, control, rigging, distribution, and cables to our high standard. Ensuring all equipment is fully functional, clean, and well presented
- Using MA lighting control systems to test functionality of equipment
- Provide support to crew members during pre-production, working with the crew to ensure they have the required resources needed
- Loading/unloading of vans and trucks
- Using dedicated hire software to track equipment through the process, accurately scan and count equipment onto jobs and back into warehouse
- PAT testing for electrical equipment and LOLER inspections for rigging equipment
- General warehouse duties, ensuring workspaces are kept clean and tidy
- Adhering to company Health and Safety policy and working to Health & Safety requirements
- Contributing to improving effectiveness in the workplace
Training
- Study Creative Industries Production Technician Level 3 qualification
- Functional Skills in English and maths if required
- Undertake monthly training sessions online and in person
- Alongside training, we build a portfolio of work including assessments, journals and observations
- In-person sessions will take place at the venue
Starting in a lighting rental company can help you move onto many areas of the industry. This industry is built on helping each other improve and succeed passing on skills and knowledge.
Starting in the rental company will give you knowledge and an understanding of a vast amount of equipment, how it functions and how it can be used. Working with our freelance crew on pre-production will give you the knowledge of how to take a lighting plan and convert that into an actual full scale physical show.
With all the practical experience you can work your way into any role. Onsite Lighting Technician, Rigger, Programmer/Operator, Lighting Designer. Once you gain experience within the industry you could move onto project management, site management or any other area of the live event industry. You could also have an amazing career progressing within LCR; Management Roles, CAD & WYSIWYG Designer, Project Coordinator, Account Manager.
Any role is possible with many opportunities available to you as you progress over time within this industry.
