Network Security Engineer

East London | Hybrid

12-month fixed-term contract | £60,000 - £70,000

Potential to convert to permanent

A purpose-led organisation based in East London is looking to appoint a Network Security Engineer on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This is an opportunity to join a business with a strong social impact, supporting the security and resilience of critical technology services.

This role would suit someone with a strong networking foundation and proven hands-on security experience, particularly across technical security assessments, operational monitoring, vulnerability triage, and security tooling. The position sits at the intersection of network security engineering, technical assurance, and security operations, so it could also appeal to candidates from an information security analyst or technical assurance background.

The Role

The successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening the organisation’s security posture across network infrastructure, tooling, and operational processes. The role will involve both day-to-day security monitoring activity and broader engineering work, including integrations, tooling configuration, and continuous improvement across security and network operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out technical security assessments across network and security environments
  • Support the implementation and integration of security technologies and controls
  • Monitor service availability and help identify, investigate, and respond to security threats
  • Triage vulnerabilities and work with internal teams to support remediation activity
  • Use, maintain, and configure SIEM and monitoring tools across NOC and SOC environments
  • Gather and analyse information from a wide range of security and infrastructure tools
  • Handle operational tickets, escalations, and incident support across 1st and 2nd line activity
  • Develop and improve NOC and SOC procedures and support operational best practice
  • Work closely with Security Analysts and wider teams on threat mitigation and incident response
  • Support and train monitoring engineers within live operations environments

Key Requirements

  • Previous experience in a Network Security Engineer, Security Operations, Technical Assurance, or similar role
  • Strong background in networking, with a solid understanding of secure network design and operations
  • Hands-on experience with technologies such as Zscaler, Palo Alto, and Vault
  • Experience working within SOC and/or NOC environments, including monitoring and incident support
  • Knowledge of SIEM platforms, vulnerability triage, and security event analysis
  • Experience identifying security threats and supporting incident response activity
  • Comfortable working across both operational support and engineering/improvement work
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical teams

Desirable Experience

  • Experience implementing or supporting security integrations
  • Exposure to security monitoring in regulated, public sector, or mission-driven environments
  • Experience helping to define or improve operational security procedures and processes

Package

  • Salary of circa £60,000 - £70,000
  • 12-month fixed-term contract
  • Strong possibility of the role converting into a permanent position
  • Opportunity to join an organisation with a genuine social purpose
  • An East London-based role with a hybrid working environment
