Senior WordPress Engineer
Remote first team
We're looking for an experienced Full Stack WordPress Engineer to join a high-performing, distributed development team delivering new features, functionality and ongoing improvements across enterprise-level WordPress platforms.
You'll primarily focus on a large-scale, high-traffic digital news platform, while also contributing to shared services and tools that support multiple well-known media brands.

You will:

Develop and maintain features for an enterprise-scale WordPress platform

Build and maintain shared plugins used across multiple WordPress properties

Develop microservices and JavaScript applications that integrate alongside WordPress
-
Optimise performance, improving response times, database queries and Core Web Vitals

Contribute to architectural and technology decisions with a focus on scalability and maintainability

Independently manage workload in a fast-paced environment

Debug and resolve issues raised by editorial and support teams

8+ years' experience in WordPress development

Strong expertise in the WordPress and Gutenberg ecosystem

Experience building custom Gutenberg blocks, RSS feeds and WP-JSON API endpoints

Advanced HTML, CSS and PHP skills with a focus on performance

Strong Front End JavaScript experience, including React

Solid understanding of Git and version control best practices

Experience working within Agile environments (eg, JIRA)

Ability to deliver full-stack projects independently from concept to deployment

Strong understanding of Core Web Vitals and website performance optimisation

Confident communicator within distributed teams

Strong debugging skills, including Chrome DevTools

A proactive, solutions-focused mindset

WordPress VIP platform experience

Building WordPress at enterprise scale (caching, query optimisation, WP Cron)

Monitoring tools such as New Relic or Kibana

TypeScript and Webpack
-
WP-CLI and custom command creation
-
AWS services (S3, Lambda, EC2, API Gateway)

Publishing to Apple News

CI tools such as CircleCI, GitHub Actions or TeamCity

Writing ad-hoc Bash or Python scripts

Subscription platform integrations (eg, Piano, Zephr)

Willingness to travel to London occasionally for team meet-ups
