Our client is seeking a Head of Engineering to lead the next phase of its engineering and platform evolution.This is a high-impact leadership role reporting directly to the CTO, responsible for scaling the engineering organisation, modernising a complex applications estate, and enabling genuinely independent product and engineering delivery across the business.

The organisation has grown successfully around a centralised engineering model but as the business continues to scale, the focus now shifts toward evolving into a faster, domain-aligned technology organisation capable of delivering multiple strategic initiatives in parallel, without central bottlenecks slowing delivery.

This role will play a critical part in that transformation.

The successful candidate will lead the evolution from tightly coordinated engineering delivery toward a scalable operating model built around independent teams, stronger technical ownership, and modern engineering leadership.

• Scaling the engineering organisation and leadership capability
• Redesigning team structures and delivery ownership across applications
• Enabling faster delivery across digital product domains
• Embedding AI-assisted development practices into engineering workflows
• Improving delivery quality, pace and operational resilience
• Driving clearer accountability and stronger engineering culture
• Supporting future product expansion and international scalability

This is not a traditional “run the engineering team” role.

The business is looking for someone who has experience navigating the difficult part of scale:

• Moving away from dependency-heavy delivery models
• Breaking knowledge bottlenecks
• Evolving engineering leadership capability
• Modernising systems without slowing the business down

Ideal background:

• Significant experience leading and scaling software engineering organisations (40+)
• Strong experience within forward facing regulated environments such as fintech, insurance, banking or financial services
• Proven experience evolving engineering operating models and delivery structures
• Experience managing complex application estates and systems transformation
• Strong stakeholder engagement and commercial awareness
• Pragmatic, delivery-oriented leadership style
• Interest in AI-driven software delivery and modern engineering practices
