Job Title: EPOS & SCO Platform Engineer

Contract Length: 6 Months

Hybrid: 2 Days On Site in Bracknell

IR35: Outside IR35

Project

Support, maintain, and enhance EPOS and self-checkout platforms across a large retail estate. The role focuses on delivering secure, resilient, and scalable checkout infrastructure while improving automation, monitoring, and operational stability across tills, kiosks, peripherals, and backend systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain EPOS and SCO infrastructure (tills, self-checkouts, peripherals, and controllers) across Windows 10, Windows 11, and Linux environments
  • Own the full lifecycle from initial design and requirement capture through to deployment, configuration, and ongoing 3rd line support
  • Create and manage non-production environments to validate changes, patches, and new features before estate-wide rollout
  • Standardise and automate till provisioning, configuration management, and software deployments across the estate using VBScript and PowerShell
  • Patch and maintain OS and application layers, ensuring systems are hardened and aligned with security and architectural principles
  • Drive proactive monitoring and observability, using data to identify and resolve issues before they impact the customer checkout experience
  • Lead Disaster Recovery (DR) validation, maintaining and regularly testing recovery procedures to ensure business continuity across all stores

Skills Essentials

  • Strong troubleshooting and retail support experience
  • Proven experience designing and supporting scalable, resilient EPOS and SCO platforms
  • Strong administration skills across Windows 10, Windows 11, and Linux environments (Ubuntu/Debian or similar)
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation using VBScript and PowerShell
  • Ability to capture requirements and translate them into formal design and test documentation
  • Experience managing the full deployment lifecycle, including patching and configuration management
