Platform Engineer
Platform Engineer
Reading – Hybrid (3 days onsite, some flex possible)
£65,000–£75,000 + Bonus + Benefits
We’re looking for a Platform Engineer with a strong Linux/on-prem background to join a growing Platform Systems team supporting large-scale ISP and operational infrastructure environments.
The current environment is predominantly Linux and on-prem focused, with a major programme underway to modernise infrastructure, expand cloud capability, and mature platform engineering practices across the team. You’ll play a key role in helping shape this journey.
This role would suit someone with a strong Linux infrastructure and virtualisation background who has moved into cloud and automation engineering over the last few years, particularly within ISP, hosting, or large-scale application environments.
This is a hands-on senior engineering role with opportunities to mentor others, influence best practices, and contribute to the team’s evolution into a more modern platform engineering function.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for engineers with a strong infrastructure and Linux engineering foundation, rather than candidates coming purely from cloud-native environments.
Experience in the following areas would be valuable:
- Strong Linux systems engineering / platform engineering experience
- Experience within on-prem and virtualised environments
- Exposure to VMware, KVM, Proxmox, Nutanix or similar virtualisation technologies
- AWS engineering experience, particularly hybrid cloud/on-prem integration
- Automation and configuration management tooling (Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Terraform)
- Scripting or development experience using Python, Go, or Perl
- Understanding of platform resilience, monitoring, and operational best practices
- Experience mentoring, supporting, or guiding other engineers
Backgrounds in ISP, hosting, web hosting, or application hosting environments would be particularly relevant.
The Team & Opportunity
The team is currently evolving from a traditional systems engineering function into a broader platform engineering capability, with a strong roadmap of projects planned over the next 12–24 months. This is an opportunity to join at a key stage of that transformation, with the ability to influence engineering direction, modernisation initiatives, and cloud adoption across the business.
