Senior WordPress Engineer
As Household Business is currently undergoing a significant transformation and is seeking a Senior Enterprise WordPress Engineer to join on a contract basis.
This is a high-impact role working closely with a cross-functional team, where you will be expected to proactively drive delivery and make a genuine, measurable impact through high-quality execution.
Duration - 3-6 month inital
Rate - £500PD (outside IR35)
Location - Remote
What You’ll Do
- Develop, enhance, and maintain enterprise-scale WordPress platforms, delivering new features and functionality to a high standard
- Build and maintain shared WordPress plugins, microservices, and JavaScript applications that support multiple brands
- Create custom Gutenberg blocks, APIs, and integrations aligned with modern WordPress best practices
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve performance across Core Web Vitals, response times, and database queries
- Work closely with cross-functional teams (engineering, editorial, product, support) to diagnose issues and drive delivery
- Take ownership of workstreams, prioritising tasks independently while contributing to technical decision-making and delivery outcomes
What We’re Looking For
- 7+ years’ experience developing WordPress at enterprise scale, with deep knowledge of the WordPress and Gutenberg ecosystem
- Strong full‐stack capability across PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern front-end frameworks (React)
- Proven experience building custom Gutenberg blocks, WP-JSON API endpoints, and custom feeds
- Solid understanding of performance optimisation, Core Web Vitals, caching strategies, and scalability
- Confidence working with Git, Agile delivery methods, and tools such as JIRA in fast‐paced environments
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to own delivery end to end
