Lead Shopify Developer / Senior Full Stack Engineer (E-commerce, Subscriptions, Scale)
Hybrid (2-3 days in office, UK, commutable to London)
We're working with a high-growth, founder-led DTC brand that has scaled rapidly and is now entering the next phase of its technology evolution. The business is migrating its commerce platform from a custom stack to Shopify and is looking for a hands-on Lead Developer / Senior Full Stack Engineer to take ownership of this critical transition and help shape the future of its e-commerce platform.
This is a role for someone who wants real ownership, commercial impact, and the chance to build at scale – not just deliver tickets.
The Opportunity
You'll be the technical lead on a fast-growing commerce platform, working across:
- Shopify storefront and theme architecture (Online Store 2.0, Liquid, performance)
- APIs, integrations, and subscription flows
- Third-party services (payments, fulfilment, analytics, marketing tools)
- Platform reliability, scalability, and conversion optimisation
You'll work closely with founders and commercial teams, helping translate business goals into robust, scalable technical solutions.
What You'll Be Doing
- Leading development across a Shopify-based commerce platform
- Building and evolving frontend experiences with a strong focus on performance and conversion
- Designing and maintaining integrations with payments, subscriptions, fulfilment, and analytics platforms
- Contributing to architectural decisions as the platform scales
- Supporting and shaping the ongoing migration from a custom stack to Shopify
- Acting as a senior technical partner to non-technical stakeholders
What We're Looking For
- Strong experience building and scaling production e-commerce platforms
- Solid Shopify expertise (Liquid, Online Store 2.0, theme architecture, APIs, apps)
- Full-stack capability, with good frontend skills (JavaScript, HTML, CSS) and backend / integration experience (Node.js or similar)
- Experience working with subscriptions, promotions, checkout flows, and performance optimisation
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment with high ownership
- Commercially minded – you understand how technology choices impact conversion and revenue
- Clear communicator who can work closely with founders and non-technical teams

Interview Process

- CV Review - we'll review your CV (and github/portfolio if available) to get a view of your experience to date
- Technical Interview (45–60 mins) - a structured discussion covering Shopify, full-stack experience, migrations, and real-world e-commerce scenarios.
- Live Pair Programming / Problem Solving Session (60 mins) - collaborative session working through a practical Shopify and commerce-focused challenge with one of our senior engineers.
- Final Conversation with Founders (45 mins) - culture and leadership discussion, focused on ownership, communication style, and how you'd operate in a fast-growing, founder-led environment.
