Digital Clinical Lead

Job summary

As Digital Clinical Lead, you will have a key role in supporting the safe, effective, and strategic use of more than 30 pharmacy systems across Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (LTHT). Operating at an advanced level of clinical practice, the role combines specialist pharmaceutical expertise with digital leadership to enhance high-quality, patient-centred care and support the Trusts ambition.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be motivated, conscientious, passionate, respectful, and professional, with significant experience in digital health. They will provide expert clinical pharmacy leadership across the design, configuration, implementation, optimisation, and governance of a wide range of systems, including EPMA, Chemocare, aseptic services, and medicines management platforms. The post will also support the implementation of a new EPMA system, ensuring clinical requirements and workflows are translated into digital solutions aligned with national standards, local policies, and evidence-based practice. The postholder will support the operational function of the team managing a small and dedicated team of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians that oversee some of our key clinical systems.

The MMPS Digital Team is a small, dynamic, professional, and supportive team with a strong track record of delivering high-quality outcomes in support of the Trust’s vision to provide exceptional specialist and integrated care. The role involves working closely with a wide range of multidisciplinary stakeholders, including clinicians, nursing teams, digital services, informatics specialists, governance leads, and external system suppliers.

This role will be hosted at the St James sites but will require cross site working.

What you will bring to the role
  • Significant experience, knowledge, theory and practical delivery of major change and improvement programmes
  • A comprehensive understanding of the interpretation and application of NHS Digital, Information and Technology Strategy, with a specific focus on medicines data standards and electronic prescribing and medicines administration systems
  • Demonstrable political judgement and astuteness in understanding and working with complex policy and diverse interest groups, and common sense in knowing when to brief "up the line".
  • Training and experience in clinical governance and risk management
  • The ability to assimilate, analyse and disseminate highly complex, sensitive and/or contentious information
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to influence widely and negotiating effectively.
  • Ability to be intellectually flexible and to look beyond existing structures, ways of working, boundaries and organisations to produce more effective and innovative service delivery and partnerships.
  • A commitment to improving patient services through an ability to sustain a clear performance focus on achieving demanding goals
  • Demonstrate the ability to work under pressure whilst supporting and getting the most out of staff.
  • Ability to engage and fully involve senior staff in the redesign of patient pathways.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential
  • Professional Registration.
  • First Degree or equivalent.
  • Masters degree in relevant discipline, leadership or degree level plus significant in-depth experience at a senior level and training equivalent to
  • masters level
  • Post-graduate qualification within a leadership programme/study or
  • evidence of practical application of expertise at this level
  • Registered with the GPHC
  • Lean for Leaders / Quality Improvement certification or commitment to undertake relevant programme of study
Desirable
  • Management or change management qualification
  • Evidence of further training in Business, Programme and Project Management
  • NHS or Digital Leadership qualification
  • Non-medical prescriber
