Are you an experienced digital specialist with a passion for using technology to improve healthcare services? Our busy Medicines Management & Pharmacy Services department is seeking a highly motivated Senior IM&T Reporting Specialist to join our highly effective Digital IT team.

Our Medicines Management & Pharmacy Services department is at the heart of patient care, managing medicines and treatments across multiple specialties. The team supports over 750 pharmacy staff within an organisation of more than 20,000 employees, delivering and maintaining over 30 digital systems used daily across the Trust. These include clinical applications such as Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (EPMA) systems, medicines management, quality assurance, automation and supply chain management. We are committed to leveraging digital technology to deliver safe, efficient and patient-focused pharmacy services across a complex healthcare environment.

Main duties of the job

As Senior IM&T Reporting Specialist, you will act as a senior technical lead within the Medicines Management & Pharmacy Services (MMPS) Digital IT team, supporting systems that underpin medicines management across the Trust. MMPS delivers vital pharmacy services across multiple hospital sites, helping clinical teams provide safe and effective patient care.

Working with the MMPS Digital Team, the Digital Support Manager and central Digital IT colleagues, you will help design, develop and maintain the reporting utilising systems including EPMA, Medicines Management Stock Control and Medicines Inventory Management.

You will develop reporting solutions to support medicines usage and expenditure monitoring, provide technical support for pharmacy systems, contribute to digital projects, develop bespoke tools and support junior team members.

You will bring strong technical and analytical experience in digital systems and reporting, healthcare digital services or a similarly complex environment. You are confident working with complex systems and datasets, solving technical and reporting problems and supporting users to maximise digital solutions.

Job responsibilities

The post-holder will work as the senior technical lead within the MMPS IT team, under the management and broad direction of the Digital Support Manager to develop and maintain (software programming) specified MMPS bespoke IT solutions, including software tools for analysing and reporting. To be responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining a variety of in-house bespoke applications and reporting solutions which support the work of the department and the Trust generally in managing the optimal use of medicines and the minimisation of costs.

The role will be Trust-wide (10 distinct sites including Leeds Partnerships Foundation Trust) with a particular focus on the three main administrative locations at the LGI, SJUH and Moor House (the Leeds Pharmaceutical Store in South Leeds). The department supports over 750 staff using numerous Digital Pharmacy systems.

The post holder will:

Troubleshoot when IT problems arise.

Support and maintain Pharmacy based Servers.

Ensure that MMPS staff use IT effectively and appropriately and that Pharmacy Systems are robust and resilient.

Be an active member of the MMPS Digital Strategy group: helping formulate MMPS Digital strategy.

Work collaboratively as part of a team and train junior staff with a view to getting them up to the same level of knowledge and competence.

Confidently take day to day decisions without needing to refer: basing decisions on previously established broad policies.

Commitment to continually maintain and enhance their specialist skill set, particularly as new technologies and equipment are introduced.

Excellent trouble-shooting skills and know-how to avail oneself of all available knowledge bases; to impart that knowledge to others.

Manage their day-to-day workload and prioritise their work in line with the broad objectives and criteria established with the Digital Support Manager.

Experience

Essential
  • Knowledge of Networking / Servers, Web hosting, e.g.: Unix, Linux, Plone, Novell & Windows networking, LDAP, Domains, DNS, TCP/IP configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Information Management: recording into and extracting from databases using SQL.
  • Systems analysis and design; software development.
  • Extensive breadth and depth of IT experience in a large organisation. Experience must cover both IT support (PCs, servers, databases, networks) and software development.
Desirable
  • Application and reporting development using SQL server/SSRS, Power BI and other ODBC Databases
  • Experience of VBA, ASP, SQL, Windows script
  • Knowledge of Content Management systems; the Microsoft office suite/Excel; Crystal Reports

Qualifications

Essential
  • Degree or equivalent in an IT related subject, or other numerate degree.
Desirable
  • Formal qualifications that demonstrate continuing professional development, in particular: Windows server / SQL server management; Web development, Server Database development.
