Role Overview:
Leidos is expanding in the National Security and Defence domain and are looking for a DV cleared Deputy Chief Engineer to support delivery programmes and bids based in the UK working mainly in Farnborough but with occasional travel to sites across the UK.
The Deputy Chief Engineer has overall responsibility for all engineering activities on the project and is part of the project leadership team. You will be leading a team of highly skilled and highly motivated individuals delivering solutions based on a large range of technical capabilities and technologies including hardware, software, networks, cloud, IT services and cyber security.

What Will you Be Doing?
The Deputy Chief Engineer supports the Chief Engineer with responsibility for all engineering activities on the project and are part of the project technical leadership team. Their responsibility and accountability extends from project start up through to operations and closedown and includes on contract growth
Note: The National Security and Defence (NS&D) portfolio includes programmes and opportunities that cover a range of customers focused on the operational and mission areas of UK MOD and UK Homeland security. It would be beneficial if you have prior experience in these domains.

Responsibilities include:
Delivery and technical assurance across the solution within the quality, cost and schedule constraints
Achieving acceptance of the solution by the customer
Providing technical leadership and mentorship across the project
Ensuring that the engineering processes within the project are commensurate with the requirements of the contracted standards and Leidos corporate governance
Identifying the skills and staff required to deliver the engineering solution
Defining the engineering processes, practices and resources required to deliver the project and services within the constraints of the company engineering policies
Managing the effectiveness of engineering activities across the project
Mandatory Requirement:
British - Non-dual national - many of our projects have nationality restrictions
Current DV clearance
Essential Requirement:
Experience in delivering solutions based on a large range of technical capabilities and technologies including hardware, software, networks, cloud, IT services and cyber security.
Understanding of the controlling processes for, and experience of a significant portion of, the systems engineering lifecycle (e.g. requirements management, configuration management)
Understanding of different lifecycles/methodologies (incremental, SAFe agile, DevOps)
Strong architecture skills, alongside process and leadership skills
Experience in leading large multi-discipline technical teams 50+ people on programmes above £50M
Process Skills/Experience:
Experience of the key engineering lifecycle reviews - e.g. System Requirements Review (SRR), Critical Design Review (CDR)
Experience in performing design trade off working with other architects and engineers to deliver an integrated and coherent solution
Understanding of service operations and security operational management planning
Experience working in both delivery and proposal environments and leading key elements of a bid response
Ability to generate Basis of Estimates and schedules for security aspects of delivery
Experience of designing a secure software development lifecycle (SDLC) for a customer that's transitioning to a DevOps model
Communication and Soft Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and works well in a team environment
Capable of developing and communicating a vision to meet the System Requirements
Ability to communicate complex technical ideas across a wide range of different audiences in written and verbal forms;
A good level of commercial awareness that will support the bid and delivery environments
Intellectual calibre and confidence to conduct complex discussions with civilian and service customers and suppliers
Commercial awareness sufficient to support discussions with customers and suppliers
