Artificial Intelligence Intern
About the company
Lendable connects emerging and frontier market companies with international and local investors so that they can in turn provide financial and sustainability services to those who need it the most: underbanked consumers and SMEs and MMEs in high-impact sectors. We have built the technical and financial infrastructure to increase access to credit in emerging and frontier markets, including a proprietary database of over 208m loans across 28 countries. To date, we have helped more than 6.2m people get access to fair finance and deployed over $682m of capital to companies across Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
We are based across Africa, Asia, Europe, North and South America, with major hubs in London and Nairobi. Our diverse team consists of investment professionals, data scientists, technologists, and people who care about supporting each other and our clients. We are passionate about creating a more equitable and sustainable world through data and finance. Come help us continue to grow!
About the role
Lendable's competitive advantage is data. We integrate data across lenders, payments companies, carbon offsets, and other business types, covering hundreds of heterogeneous data sources of varying reliability, quality, and completeness. This data drives impact measurement and tracking, investment underwriting, collateral monitoring, portfolio risk management, and market-leading analytics across emerging and frontier markets.
We are looking for an AI Intern to join our Data team at an exciting moment: we are building the infrastructure to dramatically compress the time between raw data ingestion and actionable analytical outputs. You will work at the intersection of AI tooling and data engineering, using Claude Code to build skills and agents that automate the data pipeline — from DBT model generation and data mapping, through to Tableau dashboard population and structured recommendations in Google Sheets. The longer-term vision is a platform where analysts can interrogate Lendable's proprietary dataset in natural language to surface credit risk signals and portfolio trends across deals and all emerging market data. You will be building the foundations of that.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the design and build of a natural language querying layer that allows analysts to interrogate credit and portfolio data without writing SQL, including producing charts, key metrics, and guided analysis outputs that surface risk signals and portfolio trends. This is the north star of the role, built on a foundation of sub-skills including:
- Build and iterate on Claude Code skills to automate DBT model writing and data mapping, reducing the time from data ingestion to clean, analysis-ready models
- Develop agents that can push structured outputs into Tableau dashboards, keeping reporting current without manual intervention and building new outputs
- Build workflows that populate standing Data Recommendation documents in Google Sheets with up-to-date analytical outputs
- Test and evaluate agent and skill performance, identifying failure modes and improving reliability over time
- Document skills, workflows, and agent logic clearly so they can be maintained, extended, and handed over
About you
- Experience or studies in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field
- Experience with AI tooling and agentic systems — you've experimented with LLMs or AI coding tools and want to go deeper
- Comfortable with Python and SQL; exposure to DBT or data modelling concepts is a plus
- Able to work independently on an open-ended technical problem and make sensible decisions when the path isn't fully defined
- Detail-oriented and pragmatic — you care about building things that actually work, not just things that look good in a demo
- Genuine interest in emerging markets, financial data, or the application of AI to real-world problems
