Financial Systems & Modelling Manager

Financial Systems & Modelling Manager

Leading Housing Association | London | Hybrid Working

A leading housing association is recruiting for a Financial Systems & Modelling Manager to lead the modernisation of their financial modelling infrastructure – moving from legacy VBA-based models to cutting-edge server-based platforms using Django, Python, and cloud technologies.

No two days will be the same. You'll work closely with senior leadership on an ambitious 18-month roadmap, conducting a full audit of existing models, designing new solutions, and driving automation across our financial planning and forecasting functions. This is a rare opportunity to blend technical expertise with financial acumen, taking ownership of both the strategic direction and hands-on delivery.

They are open-minded about backgrounds. You might be:

  • A finance systems professional who's technically hands-on with VBA, SQL, and Excel
  • An IT professional who's progressed from support into development, projects, or pre-sales
  • A data analyst or modeller from higher education, local government, or financial services
  • A business solutions specialist with experience in system implementations and cross-functional delivery
  • Someone from an MS partner or service provider who's worked through consultancy and development

What You'll Be Doing

Strategic Transformation

  • Lead the migration of legacy Excel/VBA models to modern server-based platforms (Django, Python, SQL Server)
  • Conduct comprehensive audits of existing financial models and create a technical roadmap for upgrades
  • Develop policies, procedures, and frameworks aligned with industry best practices

Model Development & Delivery

  • Design, build, and maintain financial models for planning, forecasting, stress testing, and business performance analysis
  • Drive automation initiatives to reduce manual processes and improve data accuracy
  • Ensure all models meet governance standards for transparency, audit readiness, and version control

Team Leadership and Management

  • Manage and develop a small technical team (including IT specialist and qualified accountant)
  • Channel and prioritise technical issues and requests through the team
  • Foster collaboration between finance and IT functions

Key experience required:

Essential Skills

  • VBA and SQL – strong hands-on experience is critical
  • Excel expertise – advanced proficiency (pivot tables, complex formulas, data modelling)
  • Proven track record of managing teams – whether in IT support, application support, systems delivery, or business solutions
  • Experience delivering end-to-end projects from planning through to implementation
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills at senior levels
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on technical delivery

Highly Desirable

  • Knowledge of Django, .NET, or similar development frameworks
  • Experience with Python and scripting for automation and model development
  • Experience with Azure Data Factory (ADF) or SSIS
  • Exposure to cloud platforms and modern data architecture
  • Qualifications: A STEM, maths, finance, or related degree would be beneficial but isn't essential with the right experience
  • Systems management experience (e.g., Unit4, Dynamics, Navision) would be advantageous
  • Experience working within governance frameworks and maintaining audit standards
