Senior VMware Infrastructure Architect

Senior VMware Infrastructure Architect | Contract Outside IR35 | North Yorkshire 1 day per week onsite

We are supporting a major UK retailer undergoing a significant infrastructure transformation programme and are seeking a Senior VMware Infrastructure Architect to lead the design and implementation of a critical VMware transformation workstream. This is a hands-on architecture role requiring an individual who can take ownership of technical design whilst remaining actively involved in implementation, migration and delivery activities across a large-scale enterprise environment

The Role

You will be responsible for leading the design, implementation and migration of core VMware infrastructure platforms, working closely with internal teams and existing consultancy partners to deliver the future-state environment.

Key responsibilities include:

• VMware vSphere / ESXi architecture, design and implementation

• VMware NSX / NSX-T design, deployment and migration

• Infrastructure transformation and modernisation programmes

• Lift-and-shift migration and datacentre consolidation activities

• Virtual platform upgrades, optimisation and migration

• Physical server infrastructure integration

• Enterprise networking and switching integration

• Technical leadership across architecture, implementation and delivery

• Supporting the transition to new infrastructure and operating models

• Ensuring platform stability throughout migration and transformation activities

Required Experience

• Strong VMware vSphere and ESXi expertise

• Proven VMware NSX / NSX-T design and implementation experience

• Enterprise infrastructure architecture and design experience

• Hands-on delivery experience across large-scale VMware environments

• VMware platform migration and upgrade projects

• Datacentre transformation and infrastructure modernisation

• Strong understanding of enterprise networking and switching

• Experience taking solutions from design through to implementation

• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills

Highly Desirable

• VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF)

• Aria / vRealize Suite

• Hybrid cloud environments (Azure and/or AWS)

• Managed service transition programmes

• Large-scale infrastructure migration projects

• Experience working within retail or large enterprise environments

This role would suit a senior VMware infrastructure specialist who is equally comfortable producing architecture and design documentation as they are leading hands-on implementation and migration activities.
