Location: Hybrid/Remote (UK-based)

Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Salary: £36,500 (dependent on experience)

The Opportunity:

We are working with a specialist organisation seeking a Data Protection Consultant to join its data services function. This is a fully remote role, offering exposure to a varied client base, primarily within the education sector, and the opportunity to deliver practical, high-quality data protection advice. The role would suit a candidate with hands-on experience in UK data protection who is comfortable in a client-facing environment and enjoys advising on real-world compliance matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day data protection advice to a portfolio of clients, ensuring compliance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
  • Conduct data protection compliance audits and produce clear, actionable audit reports.
  • Advise on and support with Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs).
  • Manage and advise on data breaches, including containment, assessment, and reporting.
  • Handle Subject Access Requests (SARs) and Freedom of Information matters.
  • Draft, review, and update data protection policies and procedures.
  • Liaise with third parties and the Information Commissioner’s Office where required.
  • Deliver data protection training remotely, with occasional in-person delivery if required.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation using internal systems.

Experience & Skills Required:

  • Strong working knowledge of UK data protection law and best practice.
  • Experience in a data protection, compliance, or advisory role.
  • Proven client-facing experience with the ability to explain complex issues clearly.
  • Experience conducting audits and preparing structured written reports.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in a remote working environment.

Desirable:

  • Experience working with education-sector clients.
  • Experience handling ICO correspondence or regulatory matters.
  • Relevant data protection qualifications (e.g. GDPR Practitioner, ISEB, or equivalent).
