Introduction:

Founded in 1875, our long history has been built on innovation, craftsmanship and above all, incredible talent. Born from the adventurous spirit of our founder, Arthur Lasenby Liberty, we remain true to our heritage. From our fulfilment centres to our flagship store, passion, vision and dynamism are part of our DNA – and that extends to our team.

Role Overview:

You will lead the design of engaging, user-centred digital experiences across our ecommerce platform and wider digital ecosystem. You will own complex problem spaces end to end, from discovery through to delivery, working closely with Product, Engineering, and Analytics to shape solutions that balance customer needs, business goals, and brand excellence.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead end-to-end design of user journeys, flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity solutions across Liberty’s ecommerce platform.
  • Own design from discovery to delivery, ensuring user-centred, commercially effective solutions aligned to brand and visual identity.
  • Drive data-led design using user research and tools including Dynamic Yield, Contentsquare, Google Analytics, and in-house analytics.
  • Champion mobile-first, accessible design, meeting usability and accessibility best practices.
  • Plan and run usability testing and A/B experiments, iterating designs based on insight and performance.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering to ensure design quality, intent, and accessibility in production.
  • Clearly articulate design rationale, balancing trade-offs while advocating for optimal user outcomes.
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Analytics, and Optimisation teams as a strategic design contributor across the product lifecycle.
  • Influence roadmap planning and prioritisation through insight-driven design thinking.
  • Present and critique work confidently, using feedback to strengthen outcomes.
  • Contribute to and evolve the design system, ensuring consistency, scalability, and accessibility.
  • Mentor junior designers and role-model high standards of craft and collaboration.
  • Maintain excellence in visual and interaction design, with strong attention to detail across layout, typography, hierarchy, and motion.
  • Document design decisions and patterns to support consistency and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay current on ecommerce trends, tools, and best practices, introducing relevant improvements to the team.

About You:

  • Solid experience designing digital products for ecommerce or content-rich platforms.
  • Proven ability to independently own complex design work from discovery to launch.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing end-to-end product thinking, UX problem-solving, and high-quality UI craft.
  • Ability to define and evolve a cohesive design aesthetic across ecommerce and selling channels, ensuring brand consistency at scale.
  • High proficiency in Figma and modern design tools.
  • Strong grasp of accessibility, responsive design, and usability best practices.
  • Experience working in agile, cross-functional teams with Product and Engineering.
  • Confident communicator, able to clearly articulate design decisions and influence stakeholders.

Desirable:

  • Experience contributing to design systems.
  • Familiarity with experimentation and optimisation tools (e.g. Contentsquare, Dynamic Yield).
  • Experience in data-informed or optimisation-led ecommerce environments.
  • Working knowledge of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
