Senior Software Engineer
What we're building
Lifted is fixing one of the UK's most broken sectors: care. We've built compliance and immigration tech that helps care providers hire both locally and internationally, while automating the painful Home Office requirements, right-to-work checks, and all the paperwork that usually makes this take months. We're now expanding our product surface area. We're not a typical recruiting platform - we're infrastructure for the entire sector.
Why this matters
A lot of engineering roles are pretty removed from their impact. This one isn't, we're fixing critical infrastructure in a sector that's struggling. The systems you build have immediate, tangible impact.
The role
We need senior engineers who can own features end-to-end - from understanding the problem through to shipping the solution.
What that looks like:
- You'll work directly with stakeholders to understand what needs building
- You'll start with feature goals, and have ownership of implementation details through to roll out
- You'll make pragmatic scope decisions when trading off speed vs completeness
- You'll ship features that directly impact our users
What support looks like:
- You'll work collaboratively with the team - we're building our documentation practices as we scale
- You'll work with the broader team to align on priorities
- You're not alone, but trusted to drive things forward
The stack (high level)
Backend: Node.js, PostgreSQL, GraphQL, TypeScript
Frontend: SolidJS, TypeScript
Infrastructure: AWS, Terraform
Tools: Cursor, Linear, Notion, GitHub
Preferred: TypeScript & Node.js experience
But not mandatory: We care more about good engineering judgment and the ability to ship than specific tech
Nice to have: ML/AI experience - we're expanding our AI capabilities
What we're looking for
You should apply if you:
- Have built and shipped production systems before (we need senior-level judgment)
- Have experience at the startup-to-scale transition - managing technical debt, building for scale, and keeping things reliable as they grow
- Enjoy talking to stakeholders and understanding the problem space
- Write code that other people can understand and maintain
- Have worked remotely and communicate well async
- Are energised by early-stage environments where things are still being figured out
