Lead Platform Engineer

Are you looking for a role where you can lead teams, influence strategy, stay hands on, and be the person people turn to when things get complex? You’re in the right place.

You’ll be joining a global organisation, but within a close knit engineering unit of around 300 Platform Engineers across the UK, giving you the backing of a major player with the autonomy to actually shape how things are built.

You’ll be part of a Platform Engineering Centre of Excellence, helping deliver and evolve critical public sector services at national scale. This means designing secure, cloud native platforms across AWS, building out multi account landing zones, scaling Kubernetes environments and modernising legacy systems into microservices architectures that are built to last.

You’ll be able to shape platform strategy, set standards across security, reliability, CI/CD and observability, and work closely with stakeholders and engineering teams to bring it all together. You’ll still be hands on, contributing to design, code and problem solving, leadership with real technical credibility.

You’ll also help build internal developer platforms, enable true self service for engineering team and drive improvements across areas like OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana and overall platform reliability.

Not only that they genuinely invest in their people. There’s structured learning from day one, a dedicated career coach, access to a huge range of training resources, and full funding for certifications like CKA, CKAD and CKS, with clear support to keep progressing.

They’re looking for Lead or Principal Platform Engineers across England with experience in:

Cloud – AWS at scale (Azure or GCP exposure a bonus)

Kubernetes & container platforms in production (EKS/AKS)

Infrastructure as Code – Terraform

CI/CD & automation – GitHub Actions, Jenkins or similar

Observability & reliability – Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry

Platform thinking – internal developer platforms, self service tooling

Leadership – mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction

In return, you’ll work on meaningful systems, lead strong engineering teams, and shape how modern platforms are delivered at scale, all while continuing to grow your own skill set.

If you’re ready to take ownership, push modern engineering forward and make a real impact, this could be the role for you. Apply below or drop me a message on Ethan.farrell@linuxrecruit.co.uk
