Job summary

We are looking for an experienced, qualified and forward-thinking information governance professional to join us at an exciting time in the growth of our client facing information governance services.

MIAA provide information governance and data protection services to a growing client base covering fully out-sourced Information Governance services, virtual Data Protection Officer services, interim support and related consultancy.

As the Assistant Director (Information Governance and Data Protection) you will lead our team of information governance professionals and will not only oversee the delivery of existing services but will have responsibility for growing our client base and developing our service to meet future challenges.

You will have primary responsibility for the professional development of the team, ensuring that the services delivered are of the highest quality, and for managing financial and resource budgets.

Your subject matter expertise will put you, and the team, at the forefront of information governance in the NHS and the wider public sector and you will, personally, be seen as an expert voice at regional and national level; influencing, rather than reacting to, policy and regulation changes.

You will be working across all MIAA clients in a flexible/hybrid model. with attractive benefits including an excellent salary of up to £91,609 (NHS Agenda for Change) Band 8c and NHS pension scheme.

Main duties of the job

MIAA operates in a unique trading environment, operating across the NHS in the Northwest and beyond as well as in the wider public and third sectors providing assurance, advisory and direct delivery services to approximately 60 organisations on a commercial contractual basis.

The Assistant Digital Director (Information Governance and Data Protection) is a critical role, providing strategic and operational leadership for Information Governance, Freedom of Information and Subject Access Request services across MIAA and its commissioned client organisations.

The postholder acts as the lead subject matter expert in Information Governance and Data Protection both internally, across multiple NHS organisations as the lead for MIAA's outsourced Information Governance service, and across health and care systems as a trusted advisor on the information governance aspects of collaborative working and new system deployments, at all times ensuring compliance with legislative, regulatory and national requirements including GDPR, FOI and NHS standards.

Job responsibilities

We are looking for a dedicated individual who has significant experience in leading a professional information governance team in a multi-client facing service model, who can engage with clients, existing and potential, and with the team to grow the service over the coming years while ensuring that the highest standards are consistently applied.

  • Working with the MIAA Digital Director, the key purpose of this role is to:
  • To lead and develop our team of information governance professionals, ensuing that the team is highly skilled and high performing and is seen as an exemplar of good practice.
  • To continue to grow the service provision across sectors and geographies.
  • To operate at regional and national level as an expert voice, promoting and enhancing the reputation of MIAA as a service provider.
  • Acting as Data Protection Officer to a number of clients.
  • Leading MIAAs own internal information governance agenda.

We are looking for individuals with the following experience, skills and competencies:

  • Experience of leading an information governance team in a multi-client facing organisation.
  • Experience of growing information service provision through expanding existing, and acquiring new, contracts.
  • Subject matter expertise in information governance and data protection.
  • Strong leadership and team building skills.
  • Extensive experience of managing significant service delivery budgets across finance and resources.
  • Strong negotiating skills.
  • Commitment to self, team, and service development
  • Respectful of differences in people and valuing diversity of ideas

The post-holder will need to have a clean driving license and access to a vehicle, as there is a requirement to travel to clients on a regular basis.

Qualifications

Essential
  • Educated to masters level or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of further on-going professional development and on-going learning
Desirable
  • BCS Data Protection & Information Security

Experience

Essential
  • Must have senior experience of working in Information Governance
  • Must have significant demonstrable PQE plus self-certified CPD
  • Experience of operating at Board level, presenting to Audit Committee and influencing Executive and Non-Executive Directors
  • Must have demonstrable understanding of the role of Information Governance and relevant techniques for delivery at local and system level.
  • Must have significant experience of recruiting, developing, managing and supervising staff
  • Experience of working in the NHS or other public sector organisation resulting in a developed understanding of information systems, risks and processes. Alternative experience in an equivalent organisation may be acceptable

Knowledge

Essential
  • Knowledge of risk appraisal and management of risk
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in the areas of Information Governance and Data Protection
  • Extensive knowledge of the NHS Data Security and Protection Toolkit
  • Full and mature understanding of NHS and public sector structures, policy and functions and digital systems together with the aptitude to build on that knowledge
  • Full understanding of the digital agenda, corporate governance, risk management and assurance principles and practices
  • In depth knowledge of Information Governance with the aptitude to build on that knowledge
  • Detailed knowledge of Data Protection and Freedom of Information legislation
  • Understanding of corporate governance, risk management and assurance principles and practice
  • Demonstrate a full understanding of audit and financial principles and practice together with the aptitude to build on that knowledge
