Job summary

Consultant in CAMHS - Therapies and Children in Care (Part-Time 6PAs)

We are looking for an outstanding psychiatrist to join our CAMHS team. This post is for a Consultant in the CAMHS Therapies Pathway and Children in Care Pathway. This is a new post created due to the extension of the Plymouth CAMHS Acute Care Pathway with the development of the Home Treatment Team, as well as the Eating Disorders Team, with increased demand for Consultant input in these and other areas of CAMHS.

Enjoying the varied nature of CAMHS, you will be enthusiastic, professional and committed to providing the very best care for patients under your care. You will provide sound medical advice and leadership with these to the Plymouth CAMHS Therapies pathway and Children in Care team.

As a consultant in the service you will naturally be at the forefront of decision making with regards to service provision, development and delivery. You will possess the skills and knowledge to supervise the foundation, GP and psychiatry trainees assigned to the department with ease.

The interview date will be Friday 28th June 2024 in the morning.

Main duties of the job

This post will sit within the specialist CAMHS service and work across the therapies and children in care pathway. There is ample opportunity for a special interest.

The consultant is only responsible for the clinical care of cases under his or her direct care.

This post will sit within the Child and Care Pathway and Therapies Pathway and work across the MDT. There is ample opportunity for a special interest.

The work of the post-holder will be to support the multi-disciplinary team in the child in care and therapies pathways by providing psychiatric assessments and treatments but also case consultation and supervision to other members of the team and containment of risk. This is a community-based post with a central base at Mount Gould Hospital. The way the team is organised currently referrals are accepted according to specified referral criteria and after triage assessment by team members. They are then allocated for specific modality work.

It is expected that there will be one new assessment (including both pathways) per week and around 10 follow up appointments per week depending on complexity. A rule of thumb for doctors in the department is five patients per day or three per half day.
