We are seeking a self-motivated and enthusiastic Database Administrator to join our Business Intelligence, Datawarehousing Team within Livewell Southwest. Main duties of the job

We are seeking a self-motivated and enthusiastic Database Administrator to join our Business Intelligence, Datawarehousing Team within Livewell Southwest. You will have more than 5 years experience in SQL environments and a good working knowledge of requirement gathering, design specification and effort estimation and planning. Technically you must have excellent knowledge of SQL Scripting and working with and configuring SQL Server Databases. Its likely you will have a Masters Degree in an Information related field or have equivalent proven experience in a technical development role.

Practical knowledge of planning, design and implementation of database change is essential. An expert in your field, you'll be able to give advice on the best technical solution, create documentation, take part in peer-review and maintain processes and environments. You will have experience of managing large amounts of data, managing technical performance and problem solving in Sql Server and allied technologies. An analytical thinker, you will understand user-centred development, and be able to take a user requirement and support it with robust architecture with high levels of security and information governance compliance. Personally, you will be able to communicate effectively with colleagues at all levels. You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical concepts to any audience.

Job responsibilities

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Data Warehouse Management & SQL Development

5.1Lead on the management, administration, maintenance and development of the SQL Server instances and databases that provide the Livewell Southwest Data Warehouse, reporting platform and business intelligence platform.

5.2Investigate, analyse, design, develop, test, document, communicate, implement, support, and decommission databases.

5.3Maintain specialist knowledge of the database structures within the SQL Server and other Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) systems within the organisation utilising knowledge of Transact-SQL, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, PowerShell, .NET Framework and XML programming and data manipulation and actively monitoring and maintaining best practice.

5.4Will be expected to investigate,technically advise and implement the development of the SQL Server using the latest techniques, best practice and tools Including but not restricted to SQL Server version upgrades, Data Migrations, Data Modelling and Source Controlling

5.5To work alongside and communicate effectively with a variety of professionals both technical and non-technical working on projects and programmes as required.

5.6Will be responsible for the creation, maintenance and future development of both technical guidance and process flows relating to the development and maintenance of the structures within the SQL Server data warehouse.

5.7Will be responsible for the development and implementation of security policies that ensure that access to the database conforms to bothNHS Information Governance policies and associated legislation and also any locally agreed Information sharing protocols.

5.8Monitor and analyse the Data Warehouse, to ensure efficiency through effective data transformation and indexing. Performing routine checks and maintenance, to ensure business continuity. Deliver second & third-line database platform support as demand dictates. Work with all relevant staff to resolve reported issues in an efficient manner.

5.9A high level of expertise in SQL coding with the ability to proactively maintain existing and develop new procedures for information provision with One Version of the Truth and the troubleshooting of server and ETL issues; including the ability to allow for integration with other technologies such as powershell, web development and other application developments

5.10Expected to provide training in the various SQL Server functions across the BI team.This will require training to be provided in SQL Server coding techniques, the proper use of source control and associated tools and in the areas of administration and general database housekeeping tasks

5.11Will support other team members with development and maintenance of the reporting requirements of the Livewell Southwest Data Warehouse.

5.12The ability to plan and balance workload between projects, support and urgent requests that may involve several complex pieces of work that have parallel timelines

5.13Contribute to the delivery of project plans with the ability to analyse complex requests and issues, translating into a solution where appropriate. Allocating tasks as appropriate, identifying risks, issues and dependencies, considering best practice and current options and ultimately making recommendations.

5.14Support the processes that ensure all statutory data set requirements are met e.g., Secondary Uses Service (SUS), Mental Health Services Data Set (MHSDS) and the Community Services Data Set (CSDS) submissions and extractions

6 Business Development

6Pro-actively developing, identifying and generating opportunities for the Business Intelligence Team to deliver continually improving systems across all functions of the organisation, ensuring theongoing improvement and effectiveness of the Business Intelligence team.

6.1Assist with the Research, review and analysis of the effectiveness and efficiency of existing requirements gathering processes and developing strategies for enhancing or further leveraging these processes. This will include advising other senior managers on the procurement of new software or systems.

6.2Liaise with other senior members of the Business Intelligence Team to ensure that the delivery of Business Intelligence is consistent across the service.

7GENERAL

7.1To undertake other relevant duties as may be required by the Data Warehouse Manager

7.2To be responsible for training or demonstrating skills for junior or new staff.

7.3To attend training identified as necessary for the successful delivery of the role.

8. COMMUNICATIONS AND RELATIONSHIPS

There will be regular communication with a diverse range of staff within Livewell and representatives of other organisations for the purpose of requirements gathering and informing of new reporting mechanisms.In house training is delivered to other staff where they have a need to be aware of more technical aspects of report building and SQL coding.

7. PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE JOB

This is a hybrid working role, predominantly home based but with access to and an expectation to attend when required in an open plan, air conditioned environment with disabled access and facilities.Work is largely involving the use of a computer and is desk based.There is a requirement to be able to concentrate for long periods of time using VDU devices and will be of a repetitive nature

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential
  • A technology based Degree or substantial equivalent experience in a similar role with relevant knowledge and skills.
  • Completion of industry standard recognised courses in SQL Server and evidence of the development of systems using relational database systems and related technologies
Desirable
  • Any industry standard certification, e.g. Microsoft Certified Professional series, Cisco Networking standards
  • Completion of industry standard recognised courses in any database or programmable language.
  • Recognised healthcare qualification in information security or management

Experience

Essential
  • Specialist experience of using Microsoft SQL Server within a large organisational setting.
  • Experienced in developing applications using Microsoft SQL Server, SSIS, Powershell SSRS and the Microsoft Office suite of products including Microsoft Visual Studio and PowerBI
  • Experience of implementing and maintaining source control methods
  • Experience of working and engaging with staff at all levels
  • Experience of developing / compiling complex policies and procedures
Desirable
  • Demonstrable experience of other relational database technologies.

Knowledge

Essential
  • Specialised understanding of the principles and use of relational database technologies.
  • Understanding of the Data Protection Act and allied legislation and its implications on the design of systems used on a multi-agency basis.

Desirable
  • Knowledge of risk appraisal and management of risk
  • Understanding of the principles and use of relational database technologies within a healthcare setting.
