Rotational Pharmacy Technician

Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a registered pharmacy technician to join the dynamic, innovative and friendly team at Ealing Hospital. This post is a rotational pharmacy technician position and the rotations are between clinical and dispensary.

These rotational positions are developing and therefore the post-holder will be expected to contribute to the development of the rotations in future.

We are looking for a technician registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council and who is enthusiastic, motivated and a patient orientated technician dedicated to teamwork and personal development.The post holder will be required to participate in the weekend working and late duties as per rota.

It is desirable for the post holder to possess a recognised Medicines Management qualification to support participation in the Trust's in-house Medicines Management programme, including drug history taking, assessment of patients' own drugs (PODs), and medicines transcription activities.

Main duties of the job

Provide a high quality pharmaceutical service for inpatients and carry out ward based activities in a timely manner and that patients adhere to their treatment plan, handing over complex information clearly to the appropriate people using verbal or written skills.

Lead and supervise other staff as requested by the senior technician patient services, including production of weekly rotas and workload organization.

Ensuring that requests for new medicines are processed according to medicines management policies and that goods are ordered, stored and distributed according to defined procedures as per best practice and RPS guidance, and that these are regularly reviewed and managed effectively.

Qualifications

Essential
  • NVQ level 3 and/or BTEC or equivalent in pharmaceutical science
  • Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician
  • Medicines management - Drug history and PODs and transcribing
Desirable
  • Hospital Pharmacy experience
  • Education Supervisor

Knowledge and Experience

Essential
  • Knowledge on IT - MS word, excel, PowerPoint etc
  • Knowledge on use of CMM/JAC, BD, OMNICELL
Desirable
  • Supervisory / training experience (2)
