AWS Data Engineer
Data Engineer - Manchester - £55,000 + Bonus The Company: Lorien Global are working with one of the biggest names in the North West. Having recently completed a large-scale migration, the business is now investing in data to unlock new products, smarter technologies, and unrivalled customer experiences on a global scale.The Role: We're looking for a Data Engineer to join the growing Data Engineering team, playing a key role in maintaining and evolving a modern AWS-based data platform. You'll be designing and optimising pipelines, supporting the migration of the existing SQL Server Data Warehouse to AWS, and helping to deliver scalable, real-time data solutions across the business.This role offers the chance to work with cutting-edge tools such as PySpark and Iceberg while collaborating with analysts, data scientists, and wider tech teams to drive automation, enable BI, and support advanced analytics. It's a role that balances hands-on engineering with the opportunity to shape the future of data infrastructure at scale.Key Responsibilities:
- Build and optimise data pipelines and ETL processes using AWS Glue, Lambda, S3 and Redshift
- Support the migration from SQL Server to AWS, implementing best practices throughout
- Maintain data quality and integrity through validation processes and monitoring
- Contribute to the development of data lakehouse and data warehouse solutions
- Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to operationalise ML and analytics models
- Resolve data performance issues and improve automation across the platform
- Provide technical input and mentorship to junior engineers
- Keep up-to-date with emerging data technologies and apply them where relevant
The Skill Requirements:
- Hands-on experience with AWS services (Glue, Lambda, S3, Redshift, EMR)
- Strong skills in Python, SQL, PySpark and pipeline orchestration
- Proven understanding of data warehousing and data lakehouse concepts
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve performance bottlenecks
- Clear communicator, comfortable working with technical and non-technical teams
- Familiarity with Agile development practices
- Strong grasp of data security and governance best practices
