Back End Engineer - Up to £490 Outside IR35 - Glasgow - 6 months (potential extensions)

Lorien are currently supporting a key public sector client in the search for experienced Back End Engineers to join a major digital transformation programme.
\n
This role offers hybrid working arrangements with attendance in Glasgow as required.
\n
This is an initial 6-month contract with strong extension potential up to 23 months total. It is paying up to £490 per day Outside IR35
\n
Key Responsibilities
\n
- \n
- Design, develop and maintain Java-based Back End services and applications
- Build and enhance Spring Boot microservices within a cloud-native environment
- Design and implement RESTful APIs and service integrations
- Develop, maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes
- Write clean, maintainable and well-tested code following engineering best practices
- Develop unit and integration tests to ensure application quality and reliability
- Support containerised deployments using Docker and cloud-based tooling
- Collaborate with architects, delivery teams, infrastructure teams and stakeholders
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, refinement, reviews and retrospectives
- Provide support across the software development life cycle including production support activities
- Contribute to technical design discussions and continuous improvement initiatives
- Mentor and support other engineers where appropriate

Essential Skills & Experience

Technology Skills
\n
Applicants should demonstrate experience in at least four of the following:
\n
- \n
- Strong commercial experience with Java 8+
- Experience using Spring Framework and Spring Boot
- Experience designing and developing RESTful microservices
- Experience writing unit and integration tests
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and build tools such as Jenkins, Maven, Gradle or Groovy
- Experience working with AWS cloud services
- Experience working with Docker containers and associated tooling

Engineering Practices

Applicants should demonstrate experience in at least three of the following:

- Server Side and Front End development experience
- Application of software engineering best practices including Clean Code and SOLID principles

- Microservice design patterns and distributed architecture principles
