My client, a local authority, is looking for a Senior Migration Consultant to assist with the migration from VMware to Hyper-V. This will be to support a large-scale infrastructure migration programme currently in its final delivery phase.

\n

This assignment is expected to run for an initial six-week period, starting as soon as possible, supporting migration completion activities and post-migration stabilisation. While extensions are not currently anticipated, the successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the successful execution of a complex production migration.

\n

Key Responsibilities

\n

    \n
  • Execute and support migration of live production workloads from VMware-based environments to Microsoft Hyper-V.
  • \n

  • Work within an established migration plan and runbook, ensuring delivery aligns with the programme methodology and timelines.
  • \n

  • Plan and execute production cutovers, including validation, rollback planning, and post-migration support.
  • \n

  • Troubleshoot issues across compute, storage, and networking layers within a hybrid HCI environment.
  • \n

  • Collaborate with technical stakeholders to ensure migration milestones are achieved with minimal service disruption.
  • \n

  • Support post-migration optimisation and operational handover activities.

Essential Skills & Experience

\n

    \n
  • Proven hands-on experience migrating live production virtual machines to Microsoft Hyper-V from VMware environments.
  • \n

  • Strong experience with VxRail/vSAN source environments (or equivalent enterprise virtualisation platforms).
  • \n

  • Deep technical knowledge of:
  • \n

    \n
      \n
    • Windows Server 2025 Hyper-V
    • \n

    • Hyper-V Failover Clustering
    • \n

    • Storage Spaces Direct (S2D)
    • \n

    • Azure Stack HCI/HCI-class storage platform

    \n \n \n

  • Experience using VM conversion and migration tools, including Microsoft migration tooling and/or established third-party migration platforms.
  • \n

  • Strong troubleshooting skills spanning infrastructure, storage, compute, networking, and virtualisation technologies.
  • \n

  • Delivery experience within the public sector or other highly regulated environments.
